The idea of a North American super league that combines the best of Liga MX and MLS remains a fantasy at the moment, but count Nashville SC defender Walker Zimmerman among those who wants to see as much competition between the two leagues as possible, regardless of the format.
Speaking with beIN Sports in an interview released on Wednesday, Zimmerman was asked by host Andres Cordero about his thoughts on the idea, and said he thought the concept is "incredible" even if there are some logistical hurdles that would need to cleared to make it a reality.
"I think what we are saying is more interaction and competitions between those leagues, which I think is really, really healthy," Zimmerman said. "So hopefully we do get a lot more games, whether it's friendlies, whether it's mini-tournaments, whether it's something similar to an Open Cup but open to Mexico and Canada as well — I think those types of tournaments are going to great to get more exposure to international football at the club level and obviously continue to try and raise the level for everyone. I think you can do that through playing teams from other countries and getting those experiences."
