The Reds seem to be going downhill right when the crucial period of the season kicked off. The PL is in the bag, but their chances of defending the European crown looks doubtful. Diego Simeone’s men should make this contest a low-scoring one, as they try to keep safe their one-goal lead.

Jurgen Klopp’s men once again showed their weakness in an away ground in the Champions League, in the first leg of this tie. Despite being the reigning champions, they were forced to make do with a 1-0 loss against Simeone’s men.

The goal had come early in the game for the Spanish team, and they showed phenomenal composure in keeping the incredible frontline of the guests at bay for the remaining 86 minutes.

Klopp threw everything he had at his Argentine counterpart, but sadly could not slot in an away goal, which frankly would have turned the whole story around.

On top of that, the Reds are struggling (according to their high standards) at present. They were eliminated from the FA Cup by Chelsea, they lost their unbeaten run in the PL (bidding goodbye to their dream of lifting the Golden PL trophy), and lost to their Spanish opponents in the CL – and all these came in the span of a single week.

On the contrary, despite some earlier struggles in the season, the Madrid outfit seem to be raising their level right when it was most needed for them.

The sole goal scored by Saul in the 4th minute of the two-legged tie will play a significant role in determining the winner. Right from the get-go, the Reds will be under pressure to find the equalizer. They do have confidence of the comeback they had made against Barcelona the last season.

However, the story is different now. Then Klopp’s men were in much better form, and then they had the element of surprise (as no one expected them to thwart Barca). This time around, they are under-performing, and the whole world (especially Diego Simeone) know what to expect – and they will come prepared.

On top of that, the Madrid outfit are on a six-game unbeaten run at the moment (that included the likes of Sevilla, Valencia, Villarreal etc), and have shown good composure in their past several fixtures. On the other hand, the Reds have not kept a clean sheet in their prior five match-ups, and conceded a total of nine goals from their past five games.

As such, we can count on Diego Simeone’s men to defend as if their lives depended on it, and play it extremely safe. Keeping in mind the disaster Barca walked into last season, Atleti will be really cautious. They will attempt for an away goal, but will not go after risks.

Likely, we can expect a goalless first half. And as time progresses, Klopp’s men will come under more and more pressure, and at some point, their incessant attacks will leave spaces at the back, which will be utilized by Spanish outfit to find the precious away goal. Consequentially, expect the guests to avoid a loss at the least this Wednesday.

Super Eagles coach Rohr on contract renewal

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has revealed he is 100 percent committed to his job and has never thought of quitting the national team. 

In his current deal with the Super Eagles, Rohr has only three months remaining. Reports suggest that the 67-year-old has received an offer for his contract renewal from the Nigerian Football Federation but he has revealed money won't be the topmost priority for him. 

In an exclusive interview with Sports Extra, he said, "I will not be a candidate for any other country because simply, I still have a contract with Nigeria and it is not my kind of work to do that."

FIFA and AFC agree to postpone Asian World Cup football qualifiers

Arabian Gulf League: Shabab Al Ahli Dubai coach wants team to learn from 2-2 draw

Dubai: Shabab Al Ahli Dubai insisted they will continue to pursue the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) title after dropping crucial points against cross-city opponents Al Nasr in 18th week action of the competition late on Friday.

“Every match is like a fresh lesson that we need to learn from each week,” Shabab Al Ahli Dubai coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena told media after the two teams had played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.

The experienced Ahmad Khalil and former Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo scored a brace each as the two Dubai sides split points. Khalil opened the scoring in the 24th minute after playing a one-two with Brazilian Henrique Luvannor, and then scored his second in the 31st minute as the home team went into the break 2-0 ahead.

Al Wahda are not far behind in fourth with 32 points, the same tally as defending champions Sharjah. Al Dhafra are in sixth with 29 points and Al Nasr continue in seventh with 28.

Fujairah and Hatta are at the bottom of the table with 12 and 13 points, respectively, while KhorFakkan managed to pull themselves up while winning at home against Bani Yas on Thursday night. Kalba (16) and Ajman (18) could also be among those slipping down further, should they have the going tough in the last eight rounds of the competition.

“We are aware that the difference between us and Al Ain is just three points now. But that’s the least of my worry as there are other teams that have an equally good chance to go all out for the title,” Arruabarrena admitted.

“We’ve got to re-visit our basics and learn how we can stop teams from denying us good results after taking the lead. All the players are aware of this situation and I am sure they will adapt well during our next match,” the Argentinean coach hoped.

Legia Warszawa domagała się anulowana czerwonej kartki Jose Kante za faul na Sebastianie Milewskim w meczu z Piastem Gliwice (1:2). - Zachowanie Kante wynikało jedynie z ferworu walki, ale nie było intencjonalne, gwałtowne czy agresywne. Spodziewam się uchylenia decyzji sędziego - przyznał Jakub Laskowski, dyrektor ds. prawnych i administracji sportowej Legii Warszawa, w specjalnym komunikacie klubu. Los partidos se jugarán a puerta vacía

La OMS (Organización Mundial de la Salud) lo adelantó en su día: el coronavirus ha llegado para quedarse. Ya ha hecho presa del deporte español, que hasta ahora se había mantenido al margen y desarrollándose con total normalidad. La bomba ha explotado en torno a las doce del mediodía, cuando tras un Consejo de Ministros se acordó de forma unánime que todos los eventos deportivos han de celebrarse a puerta cerrada debido a esta enfermedad.

Tal drástica decisión afecta a las jornadas 28 y 29 de LaLiga Santander y a las jornadas 32 y 33 de LaLiga Smartbank. En esas fechas tendrán lugar partidos de demasiado renombre, como los derbis de Sevilla y Valencia, los cuales se disputarán el próximo fin de semana. En lo que atañe al duelo de la ciudad hispalense, no es la primera vez que se jugará en estas condiciones, pues en 2007 sevillistas y béticos se enfrentaron en la Copa del Rey sin público alguno -a raíz de una sanción impuesta al equipo de La Palmera- en el Coliseum Alfonso Pérez de Madrid. Además, el SD Eibar-Real Sociedad, choque correspondiente a la jornada 24 que fue aplazado por condiciones climáticas inapropiadas, tampoco recibirá aficionados. Por tanto, los torneos domésticos se unen a los continentales en este sentido, ya que hay que recordar que el Valencia-Atalanta, el FC Barcelona-SS Napoli y el Sevilla FC-AS Roma restringirán la entrada de hinchas .

Ya es oficial: el partido de ida de los octavos de final de la Europa League entre el Inter de Milán y el Getafe ha sido suspendido, sin una fecha establecida y pendiente de la evolución del Covid-19 en Italia y España. Finalmente, se ha impuesto la lógica y la prohibición del Gobierno español a los viajes entre ambos países ha hecho imposible la celebración del encuentro que debía disputarse este mismo jueves. A su vez, el Sevilla-Roma ha quedado igualmente aplazado por la imposibilidad de viajar a la ciudad hispalense por parte del conjunto giallorosso y se celebrarán en el momento en que la situación mejore.

Ángel Torres se negaba a llevar al equipo a Milan

El equipo había encarado la semana con total normalidad en lo que respecta a entrenamientos, con la salvedad de hacerlos todos a puerta cerrada, sin acceso a prensa. El viaje a Milán estaba previsto para el mismo día de partido por la mañana.

Tras esta suspensión, es muy probable que venga la de la Liga. En una reunión este mismo jueves entre patronal, RFEF y AFE se va a tomar una decisión que parece encaminada al cierre del fútbol profesional español durante dos semanas, al igual que ha ocurrido con las competiciones semiprofesionales que organiza la Federación.

Simeone: "En el campo tenemos que salir fuertes"

Diego Pablo Simeone declaró ante los medios la tarde anterior al partido contra el Liverpool en Anfield. Contra quienes se enfrentarán en la jornada 2 de los octavos de final de la Champions League.

Con estas palabras, el Cholo deja claro que han analizado al rival y que no salen confiados por la victoria por 1 a 0 que consiguieron en casa, pero sí con ganas de mantener el resultado y pasar a cuartos sin problemas. 

Ante la importancia que tiene para el club colchonero superar esta fase y continuar en la Champions, Simeone ha declarado que: “El partido de mañana pedirá la mayor exigencia, concentración e interpretar qué partido queremos jugar. Si llevamos el partido a donde queremos, conseguiremos hacer daño”. 

Ante la alarma social y últimas medidas gubernamentales a causa del coronavirus, no ha habido declaraciones que muestren preocupación por parte de los técnicos. Como buenos profesionales, mañana saldrán al terreno de juego a enfrentarse con la mayor normalidad posible, pero eso sí, cumpliendo todas las medidas de prevención que sean oportunas y necesarias.

Este martes, el Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD) de España le comunicó a todas sus Federaciones deportivas que las competiciones y eventos deportivos profesionales y no profesionales se deberán disputar a puerta cerrada durante los próximos 14 días para evitar la propagación del coronavirus. Esto incluye las dos próximas jornadas de La Liga.

Además de esto, el partido entre el Barcelona y Napoli por la vuelta de los octavos de final de la Champions League se jugará sin público, medida que se hizo efectiva tras una reunión celebrada este martes entre representantes de la Generalitat, el sistema institucional en que se organiza políticamente a Cataluña, y del FC Barcelona.

Es en este marco que el club anunció también un paquete de medidas internas para intentar que el virus no llegue al club. Ante todo devolverá el dinero de las entradas a los fans que ya habían comprado los boletos para los siguientes partidos.

La institución, canceló el Torneo Barça Academy World Cup previsto para esta Semana Santa y suspendió la actividad en las Barça Academy de China, Japón, Dubai y Kuwait. A su vez, se anularon los desplazamientos de los equipos juveniles a torneos amistosos previstos celebrar durante los meses de marzo y abril, y las actividades de la fundación.

Para evitar un mayor contagio del COVID-19, varios partidos de la Liga de Campeones se jugarán a puertas cerradas, como el Valencia-Atalanta y PSG-Dortmund, además de que el Comité Olímpico Nacional Italiano (CONI) anunció este lunes la suspensión de todos los eventos deportivos en Italia hasta el 3 de abril.

Palmeiras e Guaraní-PAR se enfrentaram nesta terça-feira (10), no Allianz Parque, pela segunda rodada do Grupo B da Copa Libertadores. Os donos da casa venceram por 3 a 0, com três gols de Luiz Adriano.

Pressão instantânea e catimba paraguaia

Logo aos dois minutos, o Palmeiras quase ampliou o placar e deixou o torcedor com o coração na mão. Rony tocou para Luiz Adriano na área do pênalti, que rolou para Dudu chegar batendo. O Palmeiras abriu o placar aos sete minutos do segundo tempo. Após cobrança rápida de falta, Dudu lançou a bola para Luiz Adriano na área, que brigou com a marcação e concluiu por baixo das pernas de Servio.

A equipe de Vanderlei Luxemburgo ampliou aos 27 minutos. Luiz Adriano recebeu de Rony dentro da área e finalizou cruzado, sem chances para o goleiro do Guaraní. 

Aos 36 minutos, Luiz Adriano ainda marcou mais um gol na partida. Após lançamento de Patrick de Paula, Dudu fez bela jogada individual na linha de fundo e encontrou o atacante na pequena área, que chegou batendo de primeira para fazer seu “hat-trick” na partida.

O Guaraní diminuiu aos 42. Merlini lançou na área, Bobadilla dominou e bateu por cima de Weverton.

Com a vitória sobre o Guaraní, o Palmeiras assumiu a liderança isolada do Grupo B, com seis pontos. Já os paraguaios perderam a segunda posição na chave para o Bolívar, que tem os mesmos três pontos. O Tigres ocupa a lanterna do grupo, ainda sem pontuar.
