Manchester United set for Milan, Liverpool, and Real Madrid test at the International Champions Cup this summer…

The International Champions Cup have announced the matches Manchester United will play in the United States of America this summer. A few weeks ago, United confirmed that they will be heading to the USA during pre-season again where they will face Mexican side Club American and MLS side San Jose Earthquakes. A further three matches have been confirmed for the tournament which has seen clubs from all over the world play in North America, Europa, Asia, and Australasia.
The competition was founded in 2013 and played in North America and Europe which was won by Real Madrid. The following season, the competition was bigger and Manchester United participated for the first time, winning the competition. In 2015, the competition was extended with matches in Australia and China being added which three separate tournaments. Paris Saint-Germain won in North America, with Real Madrid winning both in China and Australia.
In 2016, United played in the China part of the tour, which was unsuccessful as matches were cancelled with ended up with no winner of the tournament. In North America, PSG won again, whilst Juventus won in Australia. Last summer, Singapore was added to the competition, alongside China and the USA. Inter Milan won in Singapore, the tournament was uncrowned in China, again and Barcelona won in North America.
This summer, there will be matches played in: North America – Ann Arbor, Chicago, New York (twice), Pittsburgh, Santa Clara, Dallas, Miami, San Diego, Washington, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Minnesota, and Philadelphia; Europe – Austria (Klagenfurt), Spain (Madrid), Sweden (Gothenburg and Stockholm), Italy (Lecce), and Switzerland (Zürich); and Singapore (Kallang).
United will commence their pre-season tour, presented by Aon, on Thursday 19th July 2018 when they face Club America at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona; KO 19:00 local time. United will then face San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday 22nd July 2018 at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California; KO 14:00 local time. These two fixtures were announced a few weeks ago and are nothing to do with the International Champions Cup.
Manchester United will face AC Milan, Liverpool, and Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup this summer. Here is the schedule (kick off times are not yet know);
AC Milan, Rose Bowl, Pasadena, Los Angeles, California – Wednesday 25th July 2018
Liverpool, Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, Michigan – Saturday 28th July 2018
Real Madrid, Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, Florida – Tuesday 31st July 2018
So United will play five matches in the United States of America this summer. There is a possibility that there could be at least one other pre-season match played in Europe this summer, which was the case last summer with Valerenga in Norway and Sampdoria in Dublin, which was obviously played days before the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid at the start of last season. There are now guarantees of this though, especially with the new season commencing on Saturday 11th August 2018.

Tactical Change Breeds More of the Same for San Jose

If anybody felt off their equilibrium at Avaya Stadium on Saturday Night, they were far from alone. The shock rang through the stadium as the lineup sheet was handed out and for the first time in almost three years, the name Wondolowski was on the written in under “Bench.” It was among several changes that Coach Mikael Stahre made as the Earthquakes shift to a 4-3-3 formation was not enough to keep San Jose from playing to a 2-2 draw against the Houston Dynamo.
“We tried to play a 4-3-3 in this game to add one more player to the midfield and make it easier to posses the ball and control the ball from behind.” said Stahre. “We take it game by game, and it’s really important to analyze the opponent and select a game plan. We have many good players on the roster and all of them are fit, so it’s hard for the coach to select the lineup every week, and that’s good.”
The shift in formation had initially left the Earthquakes disjointed and struggling to connect passes in the final third, but they found a breakthrough in the 26th minute when Magnus Eriksson found the back of the net for the first time at Avaya Stadium to give the home team a 1-0 lead that they would take into halftime.
The second half was not as kind to the Earthquakes as the Dynamo were able to capitalize early with an equalizer from Tomas Martinez in the 48th minute, followed up in the 63rd when Mauro Manotas found the back of the net to give Houston a 2-1 lead.

Coach Stahre immediately went to his newly anointed super sub to give some energy off the bench in the 67th minute, but it was the other sub that came on with him that would ultimately save the day for the Earthquakes as Jamir Hyka hit a wonder strike past Chris Seitz to level the score a 2-2. For Hyka, who was logging his first minutes of the 2018 season, it was an opportunity to impress his new coach that he made the most of.
“It’s not easy when you are on the bench all the time, but like a professional you have to keep working and wait for your chance and when the chance is there try your best and hope today was my chance, and I scored a goal and I helped the team.”
San Jose Forward Chris Wondolowski looks on from the bench during a game against the Houston Dynamo on April 14th, 2018 at Avaya Stadium. Photo by Lyndsay Radnedge.
While many would agree that a 4-3-3 formation does not utilize Chris Wondolowski to the best of his abilities, seeing the club legend on the bench to start the game played a major theme in the story line for this game and for the club going forward.
“It was definitely different, it was a whole ‘nother way to prepare for yourself, but its part of the game. I’ve come off the bench a few times with the US National Team so I know how to prepare myself to be ready,” said Wondolowksi. “I love playing, but I love winning and being part of a winning culture. If I play 90 minutes, one minute, zero, as long as we’re lifting a cup at the end of the year, I’m a happy man.”
“It was a really hard decision of course. We talked about it with the coaching staff and we made the decision to play with one striker and add one more midfielder,” said Stahre. “Wondolowski is a fantastic player and fantastic leader and we subbed him in in the second half and we changed the shape.”
The Quakes head out on the road next Saturday as they will make their first visit to Orlando City Stadium for a showdown with Orlando City FC while Houston will welcome defending MLS Cup Champions Toronto FC to BBVA Compass Stadium next Saturday.

Christiano arriscou e longe e a bola explodiu no travessão.

Bengaluru FC beat Mohun Bagan to set up Super Cup final vs East Bengal

Down by a goal at the interval and reduced to 10 men after Nishu Kumar was sent off in the 50th minute, Bengaluru FC fought back to beat Mohun Bagan 4-2 and book a place in the Super Cup final against East Bengal

Miku (R) scored a hat-trick while Sunil Chhetri scored the final goal to help Bengaluru FC beat Mohun Bagan 4-2 and reach the final of the Super Cup, in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

A 10-man Bengaluru FC rode on Miku’s hat-trick as they staged a remarkable comeback to beat Mohun Bagan 4-2 and book a summit clash berth in the inaugural Super Cup football tournament in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
Down by a goal at the interval and reduced to 10 men after Nishu Kumar was sent off in the 50th minute, Bengaluru fought back to emerge triumphant in the semifinal match at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
Nicolas Fedor (Miku) scored a hat-trick (62nd, 65th, 89th minute) to turn things around while captain Sunil Chhetri (90th) came up with a sublime strike to take the game away from Mohun Bagan.
All of that happened after Dipanda Dicka had put Bagan in the lead in the 42nd minute. Dicka did manage to reduce the margin in added time (90+2) scoring another, but it was a bit too late.
Bengaluru FC now face East Bengal in the final slated to be played on April 20.
Mohun Bagan coach Shankarlal Chakraborty placed confidence in the same starting eleven which beat Shillong Lajong FC in the quarter-finals and went for a 4-4-2 formation.

Experienced defender Kingshuk Debnath started, with Australian Cameron Watson playing the role of the defensive mid-fielder and Nikhil Kadam and S K Faiaz manning the wings. The two men upfront were Lebanon’s Akram Moghrabi and the in-form Cameroonian striker Dipanda Dicka.
On the other hand, Alberto Roca started with a 4-3-3, with India captain Chhetri leading a three-man forward line consisting of Venezuelan Miku and national team colleague Udanta Singh.
The first chance of the game fell to Nikhil Kadam in the 7th minute but he muffed up a left-footer -- shooting wide with just goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to beat.
Minutes later, Bengaluru found their first scoring opportunity but Boithang Haokip shot at the side-netting from close.
In the 42nd minute, Mohun Bagan’s dependable Dipanda Dicka gave the Kolkata side the lead.
Akhram latched onto a Nikhil Kadam header over Harmanjot Khabra on the left of the Bengaluru box. He put in a left-footed grounder across which went past two Bengaluru defenders and Gurpreet to find Dicka, who tapped in with his left foot.
Bengaluru ended the half with two bookings as well. Chhetri had earlier been booked for a challenge in the 38th minute and just before the half-time whistle, Khabra was also booked for a rough tackle.

At the start of the second half, Bengaluru brought in Spaniard Antonio Toni Rodriguez for Khabra and started as the more positive side. In the very first minute, Haokip hit straight to Bagan custodian Shilton Paul from close.
Bengaluru suffered a jolt in the 50th minute when a long clearance found Nikhil Kadam in the clear inside the Bengaluru half with only Gurpreet to beat. But his run was halted by Nishu Kumar who fouled him from behind and was promptly red-carded.
The loss of Nishu did not have any impact on Bengaluru as Miku got the equaliser in the 62nd minute. He then went on to complete his hat-trick to seal the game for Bengaluru.
The first was a clinical finish off an Udanta cut-in from the right. The second in the 65th minute was an intelligent quickly taken free-kick, initiated outside the Bagan box by Miku himself and cheekily supported by Toni, which also saw a cool finish from the Venezuelan.
The third was off a penalty in the 89th minute when Rana Gharami brought Udanta down inside the box.
Chhetri completed Bengaluru’s goal tally in the 90th minute when he followed Gurpreet Singh Sandhu’s long-kick, cut past his marker and pulled up a delightful curler from outside the top-right corner of the Mohun Bagan box which beat a diving Shilton Paul.
Dicka did get one back in added time but it was too late by then.

Cork's Keohane strikes late to deny battling Sligo a point

Jimmy Keohane celebrates with his teammates after breaking the deadlock deep in the second half against Sligo Rovers

Jimmy Keohane emerged from the bench to net the only goal of the game as Cork City beat Sligo Rovers at Turner's Cross.
Keohane making the most of some indecisive defending from his former club, hit the winner 12 minutes from time to keep Cork to within two points of leaders Dundalk.
The Bit O'Red managed to take two wins from their last three visits to Leeside, but had to rely on their goalkeeper Mitchell Beeney to keep the champions at bay early on.
With barely two minutes on the clock, Colm Horgan managed to find what was limited space behind the Rovers rearguard before squaring for Graham Cummins, who from point blank was denied by Beeney. The Chelsea loanee reacting quickly to get down and scoop the striker's header off his line.
Sligo slowly settled but the home side still looked favourites to register first.
Paddy McClean got a leg in front of Barry McNamee's shot after a well worked one-two with Cummins at the edge of the Rovers area just short of the 20th minute.
Beeney was called into action once more, six minutes from the interval, when he was forced in to diverting Karl Sheppard's bending cross over his crossbar, Ger Lyttle's charges continuing to rebuff City.
Conor McCarthy's header from a Sheppard corner whistled narrowly past the Sligo post to leave it scoreless at the break.
John Caulfield had to watch the game from the press box as he served his touchline ban following Waterford fracas
The second half didn't offer much more in terms of entertainment, taking 18 minutes to provide its next talking point.
McNamee somehow fluffed his lines from close range after Kieran Sadlier's low cross from the left made it all the way across goal. The Donegal native only able to find the advertising hoardings from four yards out.
Cummins flashed a header past the target on 72 minutes, but the Rebels were not be denied six minutes later.
Rovers failed to clear Horgan's cross before Keohane was allowed time to pick out the corner of the net for his first of the year.
The men from the west did muster a late chance to steal a point, but substitute Adam Morgan's volley didn't trouble McNulty three minutes from time.

Toronto FC 1, CD Guadalajara 2 | 2018 Concacaf Champions League Recap

Toronto FC were widely labeled the favorites in the lead-up to Tuesday's first leg of the 2018 Concacaf Champions League final vs. CD Guadalajara at BMO Field.
But the old ghosts of MLS CCL struggles past had other ideas.
Chivas stunned the hosts with a gut-wrenching goal less than 120 seconds after the opening whistle, Rodolfo Pizarro netting from close range to snatch an early lead, a precious away goal and a massive mental advantage for the Mexican giants.
Though clearly rattled by the setback, TFC rallied gamely, hauling themselves back into the match via Jonathan Osorio's fourth goal of the tournament and watching in agony as an effort from Jozy Altidore, who was hampered by illness and appeared to throw up repeatedly during the match, clanged the post before halftime. But their momentum flagged after the break, and a costly misjudgment by goalkeeper Alex Bono pushed the Canadian side into an even deeper hole.
Chivas star Alan Pulido may have intended it as a cross, but his deep set-piece delivery from near the touchline was sweetly struck from range, arcing over Bono's fingertips and into the net to deliver a massive 2-1 victory for the Goats. It leaves TFC with a mountain to climb in Leg 2 at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara next Wednesday (9:30 pm ET | TSN in Canada, Univision Deportes, go90.com in US).

Goals

  • 2' – CHV – Rodolfo Pizarro
  • 19 – TOR – Jonathan Osorio | WATCH
  • 72' – CHV – Alan Pulido | WATCH

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: With Altidore ailing, Sebastian Giovinco out of sorts and just about everyone else in home colors looking rattled and sloppy, TFC suddenly found themselves in a worse-case scenario. This result was as much about TFC's generosity as it was Chivas' quality, and now the Reds will need heroics in Mexico.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Pizarro's early goal caught the Toronto defense sleeping and was immensely influential on the entire evening, and probably, the series itself.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: There's little choice but to award this title to Pizarro, who took his chance when he needed to and put in plenty of hard work down the stretch as well.
