Sporting CP vs Atletico Madrid Preview: Recent Form, Team News, Key Battle & More

Atletico Madrid come into this game buoyed by their a routine 2-0 win in the home tie with Sporting CP. Koke's goal 26 seconds into the first leg put Simeone's team on the front foot from the outset, and the game was wrapped up by an Antoine Griezmann strike late in the first half.
But Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho has since chimed in with his opinion of his team's performance, labelling his players as 'spoiled kids' and threatening to suspend 19 members of the first team squad.

Salzburg vs Lazio: Predictions and Betting Preview

Salzburg vs Lazio-Europa League Predictions 12th April 2018
Salzburg vs Lazio
Europa League Quarterfinal Second Leg
Date: 12th April 2018, Thursday
Kick-off at 20:05 UK/ 21:05 CET
Venue: Red Bull Arena (Salzburg).
A thrilling 4-2 victory in the first leg put Lazio in an excellent stand to advance to the Europa League quarter finals. Having scored 2 goals, Salzburg represents ample threat and the Italians must not drop their guards in the travel to Austria on Thursday.
The full-time score at the Stadio Olimpico doesn’t truly represent what exactly went in the football field. But for sure, Lazio were smart enough to take their chances. Salzburg had better of the possession and created 15 chances, but only 4 tested the goal-keeper. Meantime, their defense took a beating as Partenopei created almost the same number of chances, but 4 got into the back of the net. It could have been more embarrassing for the visitors, if not for some neat work from the veteran goal-keeper Alexander Walke.
Salzburg were unbeaten in 19 games before the downfall in Rome, a streak started from the group phase of last season. They reached the quarter final for the first time this season by beating German giants Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16.
On the other hand, Lazio are one of the high scoring teams in the competition having netted 25 times in 11 matches. However, their defense had a fair bit of issues and conceded 12 in the process. So, they can be considered as a team capable of outscoring the opposition with little stability at the back.

Salzburg vs Lazio: Head-to-head

Salzburg had won the two only other meetings with Lazio, both by the 2-1 margin during the group stage of 2009/10 season of the same competition.
Now, we have two stats to match the team’s current trend. That is both teams to score and over 2.5 goals in the three meetings between them so far.
Salzburg’s overall record against Italian clubs is a humble 3 wins, 2 draws and 8 losses from 13 games. They had won only once at home in 5 attempts, drew 1 and lost the other 3. That lone home victory is against their Thursday’s visitors.
Lazio won 2 and lost 2 in their 4 previous visits to Austria. They are yet to draw a game home or away against an Austrian club, 4 wins and 3 draws from 7 overall.

Salzburg vs Lazio: Prediction

Lazio are a strong side on paper as compared to their hosts. Yet, I believe Salzburg have a few tricks up their sleeves and we are most likely to see a surprise result. Furthermore, Lazio’s defense is a weak link, already conceded 8 from the 5 away games so far. Salzburg have a capable attacking front and therefore the full-time score-line could go eitherways. That being said, I do not see this ending as a draw.

Salzburg vs Lazio: Team News & Predicted Line-ups

RB Salzburg
Reinhold Yabo is yet to recover from an illness that keep him in the sidelines since the end of March. The only other player missing is defensive midfielder Diadie Samassekou after picking up his fifth yellow card in the first leg tie.
RB Salzburg: Predicted Line-up
Walke – Ulmer, Caleta, Ramalho, Lainer – Schlager, Berisha, Haidara, Wolf – Gulbrandsen, Dabbur.
SS Lazio
Marco Parolo is short on fitness to start and he is the only injury concern for Maurizio Sarri as he prepares his team for the trip to Austria. He could be replaced by the experienced Lucas Leiva to dictate tempo in the middle of the park.
Other Changes are hardly expected to the eleven that started in the first leg at Rome.
Lazio: Predicted Line-up (3-5-2)
Strakosha – Radu, Felipe, Vriji – Lulic, Savic, Leiva, Alberto, Basta – Anderson, Immobile.

Atletico Madrid: Fernando Torres leaving signals end of era

The veteran striker enjoyed two hugely contrasting spells with the Spanish club and will go down as one of Spain's most iconic players of trophy-laden years.

Atletico Madrid plan to make their final home game of the season against Eibar an ‘unforgettable experience’ as they say goodbye, again, to a player who holds the hearts of their fans like no other. This week confirmed the inevitable news that Fernando Torres, now 34, will leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Torres netted 126 goals across two spells at the club but has managed just seven in 34 appearances this season. His career has been remarkable: the striker managed 126 goals in England across stints with Liverpool and Chelsea, where he won the European Cup in 2012. With 38 goals in 110 international appearances, he is Spain’s third-highest capped player.

“This will always be my home”

Yet despite becoming a cult hero at Liverpool and having a tough, if often comic, role at Chelsea following a landmark £50 move in January 2011, he has described his boyhood club Atleti as his ‘only home’.
“When I joined Atletico, I was 10 years old and it became my home,” Torres told reporters upon confirming the news.
“I was lucky enough to make my debut here, to play a lot of matches, to score a lot of goals and it was still my home.
“You can have many houses but you can only have one home and that’s how I have always felt about the situation.
“When I had the opportunity to come back I have been able to enjoy Atleti as I always dreamt – a champion who fights for every championship against the big powerful ones.
“This will always be my home.”

Torres will always be welcome back at Atleti

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has since added: “The doors of Atletico de Madrid will always be open for him, he will forever be a legend of our club.” It has been strongly hinted that when the striker hangs up his boots, a role with the Madrid-based giants will be a formality.

The lasting legacy

Torres had been with the club through their tough times as his first two seasons were in Spain’s second tier when Atleti’s financial problems and off-field chaos eventually caught up with them. His first goal for the club came in 2001 and his 100th arrived 15 years later. As a 19-year-old, he remarkably was named captain for the team and he would go on to be managed, ironically, by one of his players – Diego Simeone.
Reports in the Spanish press this season suggested relations between the two had become frayed and there were even reports he would move to China during the January transfer window, but this never materialised.
Torres has always had an eye for the spectacular and been capable of world-class skill, bamboozling top-class defenders and masterminding quality finishes. His goal against Germany won Spain’s first ever major tournament at the 2008 European Championships and he is one of the few players in Spain who is universally both well-liked and respected, transcending club rivalries.
It now appears unlikely he will remain in Spain after departing Atleti; after all, it may be tough for him to turn out against his club. The rate of his decline may have been much alarming than anticipated but he will be remembered for the good times. Atleti’s evolution during his career from the second tier to major challengers both domestically and in Europe ensures his departure will contain smiles as well as tears.

Marseille vs RB Leipzig: Predictions and Betting Preview

Marseille vs RB Leipzig-Europa League Predictions 12th April 2018
Marseille vs RB Leipzig
Europa League Quarterfinal Second Leg
Date: 12th April 2018, Thursday
Kick-off at 20:05 UK/ 21:05 CET
Venue: Stade Velodrome (Marseille).
RB Leipzig carry a slender 1-0 lead to Marseille for the second leg of the Europa League quarter final, in a match that hangs in perfect balance.
Timo Werner scored the lone goal in the first leg at Germany, leaving Marseille to overturn a deficit in the second leg for the first time in 13 years.
The European debutantes RB Leipzig had an impressive run in the competition since thye got transfered after a third placed finish in the Champions League group. They stood firm to overcome Napoli on goal-aggregate in the round of 32 and then Zenit 3-2 aggregare in the round of 16. They are unbeaten in the two away games during the period having beaten Napoli 3-1 and a 1-1 draw at Russia.
On the other hand, Marseille are enjoying a strong run in the competition as well, especially their home record is brilliant. There has been 5 wins and 1 draw in their 6 games so far, scored 9 and conceded just 2.
Also, their two knockout victories are built on the platform of a pair of wins. The inform Braga was trounced 3-0 in the round of 32 before Spanish outfirt Bilbao lost by a 3-1 margin.

Marseille vs RB Leipzig: Head-to-head

Leipzig’s 1-0 win last Thursday is their lone meeting with Marseilee in all competitions.
The Bulls had a taste of French opposition earlier this season when they were grouped with Monaco in the Champions League. They bagged a memorable 4-1 win at Monaco after a 1-1 home draw.
Marseille have plenty of experience against Bundesliga clubs, however their overall record in that aspect is poor – 5 wins, 3 draws, 9 losses from 17 matches. The home record is somewhat satisfactory considering 4 wins and a draw come from 8 games, losing thrice.

Marseille vs RB Leipzig: Prediction

The match hung in right balance with Leipzig leading 1-0 and Marseille holding a perfect record at their home turf. Also, this is anyone’s to win from here since both teams built on the platform of attacking football. I believe we are about to see some late drama in this particular fixture.
One of the picks I find good value is both teams to score. Not just the attacking mentality of the sides, but also the lethal form of Lucas Ocampos and Timo Werner for either sides make strong case for my prediction.

Marseille vs RB Leipzig: Team News & Predicted Line-ups

Marseille
Adil Rami and Steve Mandanda will miss the home leg through injuries.
While, Florian Thauvin and Rolando remain a major doubt for the Olympians.
Lack of options might force Rudi Garcia to deploy Luiz Gustavo in the center defense if he choose to go with a three men back line.
Marseille: Predicted Line-up (3-4-2-1)
Pele – Kamara, Gustavo, Sakai – Amavi, Sanson, Anguissa, Sarr – Payet, Ocampos – Germain.
RB Leipzig
Willi Orban is available for selection after serving a one-match ban in the first leg. He could slot in straight away to partner Dayotchanculle Upamecano at the heart of defense.
Naby Keita is a major doubt for the second leg. The Guinean international picked up a knock in the 1-4 loss against Leverkusen on the weekend.
The winter acquisition Ademola Lookman is ineligible to play in the competition after appearing for Everton in the group stage.
Meantime, Stefan Ilsanker and Marcel Halstenberg are two players confirmed to miss with injuries.
RB Leipzig: Predicted Line-up (4-4-2)
Gulacsi – Klostermann, Upamecano, Orban, Laimer – Bruma, Kampl, Demme, Forsberg – Poulsen, Werner.

CSKA Moscow vs Arsenal – Europa League – Preview

Fedor Chalov did all he could to save the considerable blushes of Viktor Goncharenko on Monday night after Champions League-chasing CSKA fell behind at home to struggling city neighbours Dinamo, but the damage had been done. The youngster has struggled to find game time or form this season – his sensational finish to pull the score back to 2-1 was his first goal after 23 appearances in all competitions – and his cameo couldn’t quite do the trick. He replaced on-loan Nigerian winger Ahmed Musa, whose stroppy refusal to shake his manager’s hand upon being hauled off produced an expletive-laden rant from Goncharenko.
The gist of the brief rant was that Musa would not be selected from the start, but it might just work to CSKA’s advantage if Chalov can reproduce his composure. Aleksandr Golovin and Konstantin Kuchaev had been rested from the starting lineup for what should have been a professional derby for Goncharenko’s men but their shock defeat has piled on added pressure ahead of their already mountainous task to overturn a 4-1 deficit. On the other hand, there is no foreign travel between the fixtures this week, and in theory, Golovin will be fresher, so it is not all doom and gloom.
With a tricky away game this coming weekend away to Ufa and Zenit’s relatively straightforward home fixture against relegation-threatened Anzhi, there is the very real prospect of CSKA being out of the Champions League places by this time next week. The promise of pushing on to the semi-finals of a competition whose predecessor their very stadium is modelled on is not only a chance at salvation but a sensational route back to the top table. With the bare minimum of three goals needed, it will take every ounce of potential in their threadbare squad to achieve it.
Arsenal will be full of confidence, safe in the knowledge that they have no need to hurry matters, but there is the danger of relaxing too much. Even though the score in London really should have been far higher than just 4-1, Arsenal were themselves carved open on numerous occasions, with only some woeful finishing and a slither of luck preventing the Russians coming away with more than just Golovin’s superb free-kick to show for their efforts. As if to show their defensive fragility, at the weekend they conceded twice at home to Southampton, who are in the Premier League relegation zone.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is one experienced European campaigner they will have to do without after the Armenian playmaker with a ligament injury, while Europa League keeper David Ospina has twisted his ankle; in his place will be Petr Čech. After the Southampton game Wenger was full of praise for his forward options as Danny Welbeck bagged a double to earn the win, so a pacy forward line of the former Manchester United man and Alex Iwobi might be utilised to unsettle the ageing backline of the Berezutskiy twins and Sergey Ignashevich.
For two teams in the last eight of continental competition, there is a fair amount in the back of both sides’ minds domestically. Arsenal cannot afford to miss out on European football altogether with their substantial wage bill, so despite their clear advantage on aggregate, they will have to cope with an intense atmosphere of a side with almost nothing to lose.

CSKA Moscow vs Arsenal – Players to Watch

Bibras Natkho #66 – CSKA Moscow
The experienced Israeli midfielder holds the key to the CSKA machine functioning to its full potential, as the more mobile younger players such as Aleksandr Golovin and Alan Dzagoev burst forward to create openings. Natkho often goes unheralded alongside the bustle and energy of Pontus Wernbloom and the pace of Ahmed Musa ahead of him, but his calmness in possession and ability to move play from defence to attacking situations smoothly and quickly will be critical if CSKA harbour any hopes of scoring the three goals – as a minimum – that they require to progress.

Aaron Ramsey #8 – Arsenal
The Welshman has matured into the controlling presence in Arsenal’s midfield, with more than just a keen eye for goal as CSKA found out in the first leg. Given that there is no pressure on Arsenal to score to start with at least, the key to progression for the Londoners will be to simply keep calm and not lose heads – there are very few in the English game at adept at doing so in a team and system they know so well as Ramsey.

CSKA Moscow vs Arsenal – Match Stats
