World Cup 2018: England's Harry Kane wants to be 'best in the world'
England captain Harry Kane wants to challenge Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina's Lionel Messi and become "the best in the world".
Tottenham striker Kane scored twice, including an injury-time winner, as England began their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 win over Tunisia on Monday.
Ronaldo and Messi have shared the last 10 Ballon d'Or titles, awarded to the best player in the world.
"Put no limits on yourself - nobody should," said Kane.
He has scored 135 goals in the past four seasons, including 41 last term as Tottenham finished third in the Premier League.
He has 15 goals in 25 appearances for England, and became the first Englishman to score twice in a World Cup match since Gary Lineker against Cameroon in Italy in 1990.
Ronaldo, the current Ballon d'Or holder, has scored 450 goals in 438 for Real Madrid and won three successive Champions League titles, while Barcelona's Messi has netted 552 goals for the La Liga champions.
Kane said: "To be the best player in the world you have to aim high. You can't aim low.
"I want to prove myself at a major tournament. I want to be up there with the best in the world and the only way to do that is to perform on the big stage and in the big moments.
"I had to prove people wrong throughout my career and I love proving to myself that I can do it.
"Ronaldo is the best in the world, up there with Messi, but the challenge is there to be with them.
"I have been itching to get out there and showcase myself on the big stage."
Kane said he received a surprise message from Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino before the the Tunisia game.
"Poch texted me, and after as well. He sent a lot of love hearts and said 'Come on England'," said Kane.
"He is rooting for me. He is not just my boss; he is my mate. He is the manager, but he is a friend as well."
England face Panama in Nizhny Novgorod at 13:00 BST on Sunday, and play Belgium in their final Group G game in Kaliningrad on 28 June.

Orlando City CEO Alex Leitão lays out timeline for new coach, no position for Kaká
Orlando City CEO Alex Leitão is clear regarding the type of coach he wants next for the club: He wants someone who can come in and win immediately.
Leitão, speaking exclusively to ProSoccerUSA.com, said candidates are being interviewed for Orlando City’s head coaching vacancy and he hopes to name the club’s new head coach next week. Jason Kreis on Friday was fired as the head coach of Orlando City with the Lions on a six-match losing streak in league play.
For now, Orlando City GM Niki Budalić is conducting early interviews. Candidates will be separated into four categories – for instance, which is the hungriest, the youngest, the most experienced – and then the leaders of those categories will be submitted to Leitão and club owner Flávio Augusto da Silva for review.
There is a press conference scheduled for Saturday before the Lions take on the Montreal Impact, but the club won’t be naming a head coach, Leitão said.
“As much as we understand that fans are very anxious, that we are very anxious and to give the fans as name as fast as possible, it’s very, very important to us to do it right,” Leitão said in a phone interview. “We’re not rushing. We’re not going to take too much time with process.
“I believe we’ll be able to announce a name next week. It’s great to know this club is a desirable club. We have interest from hundreds of people. They believe in the players we have. They believe in the fan base.”
Leitão declined to name specific candidates, but did shut down one rumor: Brazilian legend Kaká will not be taking a position with Orlando City. He said the two did have a conversation regarding soccer, but Kaká is not a candidate for any position.
“The club’s doors are always open for [Kaká],” he said. “The moment he decides what he wants to do, we’d love to give him the opportunity. He wants to study under someone. We didn’t talk about him accepting any kind of role with the club right now.”
Leitão added he has confidence in the leadership of interim coach Bobby Murphy.
“I trust him,” Leitão said. “He was here before Jason and he’ll be here. He’s the guy who knows the club, knows the players. He’s the right guy at this stage with us. I hope he can continue to contribute with us when the new coach comes.”
To Orlando City’s fan base, Leitão said not to read too much into his recent absence from social media.
“The taking time away from social media is because we need that time,” he said. “We need those days to really make reflections and understand the mistakes we made and try to do it in a way where we don’t need to do it again. That’s why we are more calm and low profile, behind the scenes.”
Leitão said he was sorry for the way things ended with Kreis, but knew it was the time to make a change. He said because the Lions (6-8-1, 19 points) have time away from MLS play, it gives the front office extra time to do due diligence in its search for a head coach.
He added he has the utmost respect for Kreis, as well as assistant coaches CJ Brown and Miles Joseph, who were also fired.
“It’s a tough business,” Leitão said.
“In the world of football, this is normal. This happens. This is not something you wanted when you hire someone. You want someone to complete his cycle, deliver the wins and stay.”
Leitão had a direct message for fans awaiting news.
“They can blame me for sometimes the mistakes I make, but never for not acting,” he said. “Never for not trying to do what’s best for the club. We brought this club from USL to MLS. We built a fantastic stadium. We’re going to build our training facility this year. Our academy is in the playoffs. We brought women’s soccer to Orlando and they were in the playoffs last season and are in third place now. We brought Kaká and Dwyer because we understood it was important.”
“I could just relax and give time and see what happens. This is not my nature. This is not how I want to do things. I’m not going to take the easy path. I’ll take the path that I believe is best for the club. This is exactly what I’m doing.”
Manotas goal sends the Dynamo to the next round of U.S. Open Cup
HOUSTON – When it comes to U.S. Open Cup games, the Houston Dynamo prefer to do their scoring in the second half.
That was true in their fourth-round matchup against amateur side NTX Rayados — where the Orange scored five times — and it proved true once again against Minnesota United FC on Monday.
And against the Loons, La Naranja did it two minutes after halftime when Mauro Manotas notched his fifth career U.S. Open Cup goal.
Adam Lundqvist, who was making his first start at left back after seeing time at right back with Andrew Wenger’s injury, whipped in a corner kick to the near post. Mauro Manotas outran two Minnesota defenders to the near post and head it backward. The header surprised Loons ‘keeper Bobby Shuttleworth who could only throw his hands up in an attempt to deflect it.
The assist is Lundqvist’s first as a Dynamo and the Swede was excited to finally play his preferred position.
“I felt good, I guess that is my favorite position. I played there the last couple of years and I think I can get my own game, the things that I’m best at and I can get them,” Lundqvist said on finally getting to play left back. “I can show them more on my left foot, on my left side, so yeah it felt good.”
The first half was nothing to write home about. Minnesota came out firing on all cylinders but had no dangerous shot to show for it. Houston didn’t fare any better. Aside from a long-range shot from Dynamo midfielder Luis Gil, which Shuttleworth confidently saved, Houston was unable to create dangerous scoring opportunities.
“We were a little bit erratic with the ball when passing and with our movements. You can consider that normal because some of the guys haven’t been able to play consistently, but they worked hard,” Dynamo head coach Wilmer Cabrera said. “In the second half, I think we improved. We came off much better — more energetic, sharper. We created some options.”
Unlike the game versus NTX Rayados, in which Houston used a mixture of their bench players and recently signed players from their USL-affiliate Rio Grande Valley FC, the Dynamo opted to start a couple starters.
Manotas, Lundqvist, Alejandro Fuenmayor, and Eric Alexander, were some of the regulars inserted into the lineup. The Loons, however, played their first-choice lineup, including their first-ever Designated Player, Darwin Quintero.
Quintero, who’s been worth every penny for the Loons this season after being acquired in March, had the chance to send the game into extra time in the 88th minute when he stepped up to take a penalty.
The Colombian stepped up to the spot. He took a couple of steps towards the ball before letting his shot rip but his effort would clank off the post.
Five minutes later, the referee would blow his whistle signaling the end of the game.
Houston now sets their sights on the next round of the U.S. Open Cup in July where they will face off against an old rival, Sporting KC.
“The next [U.S. Open Cup] game will be here at home, July 18, and that game against Sporting Kansas City is an important one for us,” Cabrera said. “Let’s hope that at that moment we have a team that’s competitive and that we can continue advancing in this tournament because we’re close now.”
And as fate would have it, Houston’s next MLS game is Saturday on the road against Sporting KC.
Report: Milan risk to be excluded from Europe for the next two seasons...
AC Milan are waiting for the UEFA FFP sanction as it should arrive in the coming days (maybe even tomorrow). According to Sky Sport (via IlBianconero), Milan might not only be excluded from Europe this season but there is a possibility that UEFA give them a two year ban.
The rossoneri management met with some UEFA members today but it seems like there is a lot of negativity coming from the Milan camp. It seems like Milan will certainly be excluded from Europe (the Europa league) for the 2018-19 season but it remains to be seen if this ban might even be longer than this. Milan and UEFA have denied this report but it still remains to be seen. The rossoneri might already receive their sanction tomorrow as rossoneri fans are certainly worried about their financial situation...

¿Historial positivo? Argentina

Former Columbus Crew SC player Tyson Wahl discusses his support for the MLS2ATX campaign
COLUMBUS — As the Austin City Council gets ready to debate Precourt Sports Ventures’ proposal for a Major League Soccer stadium on city land, PSV’s official promotional team, MLS2ATX, debuted a video of Austin residents voicing their support.
The first face in that video may have come as a surprise — former Columbus Crew SC defender Tyson Wahl.
Now retired from professional soccer, Wahl played in MLS for 10 seasons, the plurality of which came in Columbus. He made 74 appearances from 2013-16 before multiple concussions forced him out of the game. Wahl is the first former Crew SC player to show support for the Austin relocation efforts. In an exclusive interview with Pro Soccer USA, he shared why he supports the movement.
After retiring in 2016, Wahl and his family moved to California, where he is originally from. He moved to Austin about five months later when his wife took a job at the University of Texas at Austin. She had previously lived there and fell in love with the city. Since June, 2017, Wahl has worked as the youth development director for the Austin Texans soccer club, coaching and directing.
In his short time in Austin, Wahl has also come to love the city as well.
“It’s super active. It’s a fun culture with a lot of good food…very green, very outdoorsy, I really enjoy it,” Wahl said, “It’s a popular city, and there’s good reason for it. I think that Austin has the right culture and excitement [for an MLS team]. It’s an intelligent and innovative city, and I think that’s exactly the type of city that MLS clubs do well in. There is a huge movement of people coming here. It’s a great city and would be a great place to have an MLS club.”
Under the current plan, any move to Austin from MLS would result in Columbus losing its team. When asked for his feelings on that, Wahl said, “I have super fond memories of my time in Columbus. I had a great time there and I loved playing for that team. I really enjoyed my four years there. I think the [#SavetheCrew campaign] is the natural thing that a group of fans would do in this scenario.
“I follow the Crew closely. I support the team and those players…I wish them all good luck, as I do many players across the league.”
Wahl had no comment when asked if MLS or PSV could’ve handled the news of the potential move in a better way.
Wahl said he was not compensated for his involvement in the video, which generated immediate backlash from Crew SC fans on social media after they saw a former player actively participate in a campaign to move the team.
“Obviously, I’ve been following this season. I’ve been following the story the whole time. I know there would be a group of fans that wouldn’t be too happy to see that,” Wahl said, “I just think that Austin is a great city and MLS can do very well in this city. With other clubs around the country right now, like the Atlantas and the Orlandos, doing so well in their cities, the standard has really risen. Austin can have that type of support.”
The Austin City Council will vote June 28 on whether to enter negotiations with PSV for the use of McKalla Place or to open the lot for other bids.
During Cristiano’s hat-trick celebration, all Portuguese players were celebrating with him except one who had to stay inside the pitch as FIFA states if all 'outfield players' are off the pitch during celebrations, opposing team can kickoff the game.
Russian team physically gains with each 2018 FIFA World Cup match — midfielder Samedov
ST. PETERSBURG, June 20. /TASS/. The Russian national team was in a much better physical shape playing in a match against Egypt on Tuesday night compared to previous match against Saudi Arabia last week, Russia’s right winger Alexander Samedov told journalists.
The Russian national football squad enjoyed a confident 3-1 win over Egypt during their second Group A match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup held on Tuesday night in the country’s second largest city of Saint Petersburg.
The St. Petersburg Stadium saw an attendance of over 64,460 spectators on Tuesday night during the match between Russia and Egypt.
"The fan support was enormous tonight and we really appreciate it, while all we did was to play according to our pre-match plan," Samedov said.
The score in the match was opened in the second half by Egypt’s captain Ahmed Fathi, who put the ball in his own net in a bid to knock off a shot delivered by Russia’s Roman Zobnin.
Two other goals for Russia were executed by Denis Cheryshev, after a perfect assist from Mario Fernandes, and by forward Artyom Dzyuba. The goal for Egypt was scored from a penalty shot by team’s best scorer Mohamed Salah, who missed the previous match against Uruguay due to a shoulder injury.
Asked whether the team decided to relax a bit after scoring the third goal in the net of the opponents, Samedov said "the score of 3-0 speaks for itself as you may well understand."
"It is not that we were not expecting to score three goals, but we managed to do it and simply realized that we did what we had to do and needed to calmly finish the game to the victory, but this penalty shot interfered," Samedov said.
"We have went through a lot of things, but decided to be calm preparing for this tournament and have managed to achieve the minimum task, which we had to achieve, and now we are moving further and will see what comes next," the footballer said.
Speaking about the physical condition of the team’s players, Samedov said he believed that "today we were in a much better shape compared to the game against Saudi Arabia and I think that we will add up further as we must do it."
Combined with the 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia on June 14 and Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over Egypt, 2018 FIFA World Cup hosts are currently in the top of its Group A with six points.
Russia is playing its final group stage match against Uruguay on June 25 in Samara, while the Egyptian national team is set to take on Saudi Arabia also next Monday in the city of Volgograd.
The national team of Uruguay is playing against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, June 20, in the Russian southern city of Rostov-on-Don.
A total of 32 national football teams are participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in 11 cities across Russia between June 14 and July 15.
Russia is holding its first time ever edition of the FIFA World Cup, which kicked off in Moscow with a spectacular opening show at the Luzhniki Stadium on the night of June 14.
The country selected 11 host cities to be the venues for the matches of the 2018 World Cup and they are Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Samara.
