Avançado do Rio Ave ainda considera Sporting como «candidato ao título»

Bruno Moreira, avançado do Rio Ave, integrou hoje o Sporting no lote das equipas que ainda são candidatas a título da I Liga portuguesa de futebol, antecipando «extrema dificuldade» para a receção aos ‘leões', este sábado, na 21.ª jornada.

"O Rio Ave vai entrar, tal como nos outros jogos, para vencer. Mas será um jogo de extrema dificuldade, trata-se de um clube grande, candidato ao título, que joga bem. Todo o favoritismo [neste jogo] está do lado do Sporting", disse Bruno Moreira.

O experiente avançado dos vila-condenses analisou que o Sporting "ficou mais fragilizado com a saída de Bruno Fernandes", jogador considerou ser "diferenciado", mas vincou que o adversário de sábado por "ser um clube grande tem outros bons jogadores".

Sobre o Rio Ave, que não perde há cinco jogos consecutivos na Liga (quatro vitórias e um empate), Bruno Moreira reconheceu que a equipa "está a atravessar o melhor momento" da época, mas não considerou que tal permita uma candidatura aos lugares de acesso às competições europeias.

"Longe disso, queremos continuar o nosso caminho, ganhar jogos obter a maior classificação possível", vincou.

O atacante perdeu nos últimos jogos a titularidade na equipa Vila do Conde, reconhecendo "um momento menos bom", que coincidiu com o ascendente do avançado iraniano Taremi, melhor marcador do Rio Ave, que chegou a ser alvo da cobiça dos ‘leões' neste último período do mercado de transferências.

"[Taremi] Tem qualidade para jogar no Sporting. É um jogador diferenciado, com qualidade extrema, que pode chegar a outros patamares", analisou Bruno Moreira, à margem de uma vista promovida pelo emblema vila-condense a uma escola, na freguesia de Malta.

Nesta iniciativa participou também o defesa Nadjack, que depois de uma lesão grave, que o afastou dos relvados durante seis meses, está na fase final da recuperação, encarando com otimismo o duelo com o Sporting deste sábado.

"Será um bom jogo, de grande oportunidade para nós, em que todos gostamos de participar. Espero que a minha equipa apareça da mesma forma como nas últimas jogos. Estudámos bem adversário, estamos preparados e focados nas ideias do treinador", disse Nadjack.

Recorde-se que esta época, o Rio Ave já defrontou, por duas vezes, o Sporting, em Alvalade, para o campeonato e Taça da Liga, conseguindo vencer os ‘leões’ em ambas ocasiões.

Os vila-condenses ocupam, atualmente o quinto lugar da classificação, com 32 pontos, menos três que o Sporting, que segue no terceiro lugar. A partida de sábado está agendada para as 20:30, no estádio dos Arcos em Vila do Conde.

Bruno Lage: «O mais importante foi conseguirmos a final»

Declarações de Bruno Lage, treinador do Benfica, após o empate frente ao Famalicão (1-1), em jogo da segunda mão das meias-finais da Taça de Portugal de futebol, disputado em Vila Nova de Famalicão.

"[Atingir a final da Taça de Portugal] tem um significado muito especial, quer para mim, quer para muitos jovens, que ainda no ano passado estiveram aqui, no meu último jogo pela equipa B, onde fizemos uma grande exibição e ganhámos ao Famalicão [para a II Liga]. Tivemos uma entrada muito forte. Nos primeiros 30 minutos, estivemos muito bem no jogo, quer a nível ofensivo e a nível defensivo. Celebrámos muito o golo [do Pizzi], porque fazia parte da nossa estratégia pressionarmos daquela maneira e tirar proveito disso. Mas o Famalicão foi crescendo e, na segunda parte, fez uma grande exibição. Encostou-nos um pouco à área. Nos últimos 15 minutos, não pressionámos como pretendíamos. O Famalicão chegou com justiça ao resultado [empate].

O mais importante foi conseguirmos a final, perante um adversário que joga bem, que provoca um desgaste enorme na forma como explora a largura e a profundidade. Não estou satisfeito com a exibição, mas sim com o facto de termos conquistado a final.

[Este jogo foi mais um numa fase exibicional menos boa?} Por coincidência, a sequência de jogos num curto espaço de tempo foi Belenenses SAD, Famalicão, para a primeira mão da Taça, FC Porto e Famalicão novamente. Marcámos muitos golos nesses jogos: três com o Belenenses SAD, três com o Famalicão, dois com o Porto e um hoje. No momento defensivo, não estivemos tão fortes a nível de equilíbrio e de transição. Temos permitido algumas transições aos nossos adversários. Hoje não fizemos uma exibição consistente. Tivemos uma entrada forte, mas fomos perdendo [fulgor]. Na segunda parte, houve uma forte pressão do Famalicão. Fomos fazendo as substituições no sentido de controlar mais o jogo com bola, mas não conseguimos.

Não se trata de uma quebra física [a razão de exibições menos conseguidas]. Hoje a equipa correu muito. Com o Belenenses e com o Porto, correu muito. O desgaste vem de não recuperarmos totalmente de um jogo para outro. O Famalicão, quando joga contra os ‘grandes', não sofre a mesma pressão de uma equipa ‘grande'. O Famalicão eventualmente terá mais dificuldades em ter este tipo de jogo contra uma equipa que se fecha lá atrás. Uma equipa como o Benfica não pode esperar; na Luz, se isso acontecer, o jogo fica aborrecido. De hoje para sábado, a equipa vai ter tempo suficiente para recuperar.

Todos os jogadores são importantes. Quando se perde, falta sempre alguma coisa. Em setembro ou outubro, houve queixas pelo facto de [Cervi] ter sido titular na Liga dos Campeões. Há quatro meses, colocá-lo a jogar não era o melhor para a equipa. As escolhas [para o ‘onze'] são feitas consoante o momento".

Crónica: FC Porto vence Académico de Viseu e garante vaga na final da Taça

O FC Porto garantiu hoje a presença na final da Taça de Portugal, depois de vencer o Académico de Viseu, por 3-0, no jogo segunda mão das meias-finais, tendo agora encontro marcado com o Benfica na final.

Depois do empate 1-1 em casa da equipa da II Liga, Alex Telles, de grande penalidade, aos 19 minutos, inaugurou o marcador para os primodivisonários, tendo feito aos 64 a assistência para Zé Luís marcar o segundo golo, com Sérgio Oliveira, aos 72, a fechar o resultado.

Com este resultado, o FC Porto marcará presença pela 31.ª vez na final da prova, e depois de no ano passado ter sido finalista vencido, frente ao Sporting, vai, em 24 de maio, defrontar o Benfica, que se apurou, na terça-feira, após eliminar o Famalicão, na outra meia-final.

Os ‘azuis e brancos’ entraram determinados em desfazer a igualdade trazida da primeira volta, em Viseu, e mesmo com uma equipa que só manteve quatro titulares relação ao prévio desafio da Liga com o Benfica - Alex Telles, Uribe, Corona e Luís Diaz -, não demoraram a assumir o controlo do desafio.

Ainda assim, apesar da pressão, os comandados de Sérgio Conceição mostravam-se, na fase inicial, pouco assertivos na finalização, e mesmo dispondo de uma série lances de bola parada, não conseguiam ludibriar a coesa defesa viseense.

Só perto do minuto 20, quando os forasteiros vacilaram, num lance em que Mathaus empurrou o portista Zé Luís na área, os ‘dragões’ dispuseram da melhor oportunidade, numa grande penalidade que Alex Telles não desperdiçou.

O tento deu maior audácia ao FC Porto que, mesmo sem deslumbrar, foi tentando ampliar a vantagem, sobretudo com remates de meia distância, protagonizados por Manafá, Luís Diaz e Nakajima.

No outro lado, o Académico de Viseu, apesar de precisar de inverter o resultado desfavorável, não mostrava argumentos para beliscar o domínio contrário, não conseguindo suficiente ‘tração' nos seus contra-ataques, terminando o primeiro tempo sem um único remate à baliza de Diogo Costa.

Já o FC Porto, pouco antes do intervalo, teve uma chance soberana, quando após um cruzamento de Nakajima, Zé Luís, com a baliza à mercê, tentou o desvio, mas viu a bola ressaltar num adversário, mantendo o 1-0 no tempo de descanso.

No reatamento, a formação de Viseu ainda tentou aventurar-se em terrenos mais adiantados, mas sem resultados práticos, acabando por ser expor aos ataques dos ‘dragões', que num par de iniciativas de Luís Diaz e Zé Luís, estiveram perto dar volume ao marcador.

Nesta toada, acabou por não surpreender que, aos 64 minutos, o avançado cabo-verdiano do FC Porto voltasse a estar em destaque, mas desta feita com maior eficácia, desviando para o 2-0, um cruzamento de Alex Telles.

O segundo golo foi um golpe demasiado dura nas já ténues ambições dos viseenses em discutir a eliminatória, que ainda tentaram forçar os contragolpes, mas sem força para beliscar a superioridade dos locais.

Aos 72 minutos, coube ao recém-entrado Sérgio Oliveira desfazer qualquer dúvida sobre o desfecho da partida, desviando para o 3-0 um lance que, inicialmente, até foi assinalado como fora de jogo, mas que com recurso ao VAR foi validado.

Com o adversário completamente mercê e sem capacidade de reação, os ‘azuis e brancos' ainda forçaram a goleada, mas já sem coerência suficiente para infligir um castigo que seria demasiado pesado ao voluntarioso conjunto de Viseu.

Group G - MD1: Vissel Kobe (JPN) 5-1 Johor Darul Ta'zim (MAS)

Kobe: Keijiro Ogawa scored a hat-trick and Andres Iniesta was at his influential best as Vissel Kobe kicked off their debut season in the AFC Champions League on Wednesday with a 5-1 win over Johor Darul Ta’zim at the Misaki Park Stadium fff

fOgawa scored the first, third and fifth goals for Thorsten Fink’s side with Iniesta heavily involved in all three while Kyogo Furuhashi scored arguably the goal of the game to restore Vissel’s lead after Safawi Rashid’s penalty had given JDT a glimmer of hope. Douglas was also on target as Vissel romped to victory.

Iniesta showed his enduring class to unlock the JDT defence for Vissel’s opener, sending a perfectly weighted ball over the Malaysian side’s back line from inside his own half to release Ogawa and the striker lifted a first-time effort over Farizal Marlias to strike for Kobe.

JDT refused to sit back and less than 15 minutes later the Southern Tigers were level. Gonzalo Cabrera’s attempt to centre the ball hit Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen on the arm and referee Alireza Faghani pointed to the spot. Safawi Rashid made no mistake, confidently slamming the ball into the corner.

Parity was to last little more than a minute, however. Daigo Nishi cut inside from the right before threading the ball through to Furuhashi 20 yards from goal and he stroked his curling first-time shot over Farizal to put Kobe back in front.

Farizal’s quick reactions ensured JDT only trailed by one at the halftime break when he dropped low to his left to pull off a fine save to deny Douglas, whose shot on the turn from outside the area was destined for the bottom corner.

Vissel only had to wait until 13 minutes into the second half before registering their third, and it came after another quality pass from Iniesta as the former Barcelona midfielder slipped the ball into the path of Gotoku Sakai as he galloped forward before cutting back for Ogawa to score.

Douglas then outmuscled Aidil Zafuan to slide his shot past Farizal to score the fourth in the 65th minute while Iniesta bamboozled the JDT defence again four minutes later with a lob towards the far post that left Ogawa with the simplest of headers to complete his hat trick and a famous win for Vissel.

Up next for Vissel Kobe are Korea Republic's Suwon Samsung Bluewings next Wednesday while Johor Darul Ta'zim will next be in action on March 3 when they host Suwon.

ACL Group D - MD1: Sepahan Eases Past Al Ain

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Sepahan FC of Iran began its 2020 AFC Champions League campaign on high note after easing past UAE’s AL Ain 4-0 in Group D at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium on Tuesday

Sepahan took a half-time lead courtesy of Mohammad Mohebbi’s header, while goals from Brazilian Kiros, Soroush Rafiei and Mohammad Tayebi sealed an emphatic victory.

Al Ain’s first chance came in the 18th minute when Kodjo Laba’s right footed shot from outside the box was saved by Sepahan goalie Payam Niazmand.

Laba caused problems for Sepahan again shortly after when the Togolese international came within striking distance from the counter-attack but Shayan Mosleh blocked his goal-bound effort.

Sepahan’s hard work paid off handsomely on 38 minutes when Mohebbi rose the highest to nod home the opener from close range off Saeid Aghaei’s cross.

Sepahan, meeting Al Ain for the first time in the competition, tightened their grip a minute after the restart thanks to Kiros’ quick feet inside the box when he pounced on an errant back pass to slot the ball past a full stretch Khalid Eisa.

Al Ain, the 2003 AFC Champions League winners, looked out of sorts as they began to give the ball away and fell further behind in the 52nd minute as Aghaei found an unmarked Rafiei, who blasted the ball into the bottom right corner to put Sepahan three goals up.

Sepahan inflicted more damage in the 78th minute through Tayebi’s header into the top left corner following Omid Noorafkan’s cross.

Sepahan will face Qatar’s Al Sadd SC, while Al Ain will be hoping to bounce back against Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia.

Group H - MD1: Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC (KOR) 1-2 Yokohama F. Marinos (JPN)

Jeonju: Yokohama F. Marinos enjoyed an impressive start to their 2020 AFC Champions League campaign on Wednesday as a hard-fought 2-1 victory away at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors saw them go to the top of the Group H standings.

On a night when two-time title winners Jeonbuk finished the game with nine men, Keita Endo opened the scoring for the visitors before Kim Jin-su’s own goal effectively secured a memorable three-point haul for Ange Postecoglou’s charges.

Making their first AFC Champions League appearance since 2014, Yokohama fashioned the game’s first genuine opportunity, Song Bum-keun producing a smart save to deny Ado Onaiwu within the first five minutes.

Jeonbuk midfielder Son Jun-ho then miscued a close-range effort, while Yokohama’s Thai import Theerathon Bunmathan flashed a 24th minute free-kick over the bar.

After Song had produced an excellent stop to keep out Teruhito Nakagawa’s angled drive, Yokohama went ahead.

Once again Nakagawa was heavily involved, this time delivering an excellent cross which Keita Endo converted at the far post.

Visiting goalkeeper Yuji Kajikawa was then on hand to repel a Son header before one became two for Yokohama. Kim Jin-su steering the ball into his own net following Endo’s whipped delivery from the left.

In a pulsating finish to an entertaining first half, Jeonbuk’s Takahiro Kunimoto dragged a shot inches off target and Hong Jeong-ho cleared off the line after Song had only partially saved a rasping Onaiwu shot.

Desperate to reduce the deficit, Jeonbuk were quickly into their stride following the break, but it was Yokohama who threatened first yet again, Song doing exceptionally well to keep out Takahiro Ohgihara’s attempt from 12 yards on 59 minutes.

After the seemingly omnipresent Nakagawa had almost added a third for Yokohama, Jeonbuk’s hopes all but disappeared when Son was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

With Yokohama well and truly in the ascendancy, Onaiwu was denied by Song Nakagawa only for Jeonbuk to pull one back with 10 minutes remaining, Jo Kyu-seong making the most of a Kajikawa error to give the Koreans a glimmer of hope.

The goal mattered little in the end however as, after Jeonbuk defender Lee Yong had also been given his marching orders, Yokohama held firm to seal a famous success.

Yokohama will look to add to the early momentum when they host Sydney FC on February 19, with Jeonbuk now not in action until Match 4 when they travel to play the Australians.

Marinos win clash of champions in ACL

JEONJU, SOUTH KOREA – Yokohama F. Marinos proved to be too fast for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC, winning their Asian Champions League Group H opener 2-1 away in Wednesday’s battle between the J. League and K-League champions.

J. League MVP Teruhito Nakagawa was a constant threat in a game that could have been won by a wider margin had it not been for big saves from Jeonbuk keeper Song Beom-keun.

Song made a pair of saves in quick succession against Nakagawa before the Marinos forward crossed from the right to strike partner Keita Endo, who bounced in the 32nd-minute opener before the defense could react to Nakagawa not unleashing yet another shot.

Marinos keeper Yuji Kajikawa preserved the lead by catching a shot from point-blank range moments later, before Endo and Nakagawa struck again.

The visitors went up 2-0 in the 37th minute.

On a play in which he may have been offside, Endo broke free down the left before launching a cross toward Nakagawa near the far post. Defender Kim Jin-su slid to intercept the ball only to direct it into his own goal.

Nothing the hosts tried at Jeonju World Cup Stadium kept Nakagawa, Endo and Marcos Junior from getting high-percentage shots close to goal. Only misses and blocks kept the game from becoming a rout.

Kajikawa, who repeatedly came out of his area as far as the touchline, finally paid the price for his adventures, when he came up empty on an 80th-minute touchline tackle. Instead, of saving the day, he was absent when Jo Kyu-seong pumped a long-range shot into the empty net.

Jeonbuk finished with 10 men after defender Lee Yong received his second yellow two minutes later.

In Group G, Emperor’s Cup champions Vissel Kobe beat Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’zim 5-1 at Noevir Stadium behind a hat-trick from Keijiro Ogawa.

Epidemic-wary clubs move to protect players

COVID-19 has already had an outsized effect on Asian soccer, forcing the relocation of a women’s Olympic qualifying group to Australia from Wuhan, China, as well as the rescheduling and then postponement of Asian Champions League games involving Chinese clubs.

In South Korea, fans attending ACL games were asked to fill out forms detailing their recent travel histories and health conditions and walk past a temperature-measuring camera. According to local newspaper Chosun, a male FC Tokyo fan who reported recent travel to Singapore and Malaysia was taken to a local hospital after registering a fever of 38 degrees Celsius.

With the virus’ exposure limited in Japan thus far, the J. League has not been as affected as other neighboring competitions. That’s not stopping the league — which distributed disposable masks to members of the media covering last Saturday’s Super Cup — or its clubs from taking precautions.

A growing list of clubs have announced the suspension of fan service at training grounds in order to shield players from increased risk, with second-division sides Ventforet Kofu and Tokyo Verdy taking the additional step of canceling fan appreciation events.

While symptoms of the virus are relatively mild, vulnerable segments of the population could face increased risk. In particular, league and club officials will be concerned about the 13.7 percent of fans in their 60s and older — a demographic known to fill a disproportionately large number of seats at practice facilities across the country and regularly interact with players.

Some foreign players are also showing unease, with Tokyo’s Arthur Silva telling Globo Esporte that he no longer leaves his home other than to attend training sessions.

“I feel threatened by potentially not knowing who’s infected or who’s contagious,” the second-year midfielder told the Brazilian outlet. “So far there’s no need to leave Japan and go home (to Brazil), but if the situation gets worse it’s something to think about.”

It’s not the first time clubs have taken such precautions — there’s always several that do so during particularly bad flu seasons. But the extent to which they are doing so is an indication of how serious the risk of a possible epidemic is being taken.

Overseas broadcasters named

The league’s new international broadcasting deal with advertising giant Dentsu has already borne fruit in the form of two major markets getting live J1 games with English-language commentary.

FreeSports TV will show four J1 games per round in the United Kingdom, marking the first time Japanese soccer will be televised live in the region. Optus Sport will present the league in Australia, which is emerging as a major potential audience for the J. League following the success of Yokohama F. Marinos manager Ange Postecoglou.

The Friday-night season opener between Shonan Bellmare and Urawa Reds on Feb. 21, as well as Shimizu S-Pulse-FC Tokyo, Marinos-Gamba Osaka, and Vissel Kobe-Yokohama FC on Feb. 23, have been announced as the international Round 1 slate.

Based on the peak viewership of 70,000 watching the J. League’s international YouTube stream of the Super Cup on Saturday, it’s clear that there is plenty of demand from outside Japan.

With the return of the league’s official English-language Twitter account, the creation of an international Instagram account and the establishment of an English-language YouTube channel, 2020 may be the year that fans following the competition from overseas get the volume of content they’ve been waiting for.

Verdy promotes Ramos

Tokyo Verdy may have an all-new look, but the J. League co-founder is hoping an old face can help steer the team to better results.

The second-division side on Monday announced former player and manager Rui Ramos as its new team director.

Ramos, who played for Verdy from 1977-1996 and then again from 1997-1998, was one of Japanese soccer’s first foreign stars, contributing to the club’s five Japan Soccer League titles as well as its two J. League championships.

He took Japanese nationality in 1989 and went on to earn 32 appearances for the Samurai Blue.

Since retiring, Ramos has coached several clubs, guiding Verdy to J1 promotion in 2007 and managing FC Gifu for 2½ seasons from 2014-16.

Last year, Ramos led Japan’s beach soccer team to a semifinal finish at the Beach Soccer World Cup in Tahiti.

“Not enough people remember Verdy’s DNA,” Ramos said at a news conference on Monday according to Chunichi. “Nobody loves this club more than I do. I want to bring back the glamor of Verdy’s past.”

As team director, Ramos will advise the club on matters related to player enhancement and youth development.
