Johor Baru: A Gabriel Guerra hat-trick saw Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’zim complete a 3-1 victory over Myanmar's Magwe FC in Group F of the 2017 AFC Cup on Wednesday to qualify for the Zonal Semi-finals as the best-placed runner-up in the ASEAN Zone.
Already eliminated Magwe took a shock lead in the third minute at Stadium Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Yunos through centre-back Linn Kyaw Swar, but with 15 minutes on the clock Guerra struck from outside the area to level the scores for the 2015 winners.
The Argentine forward scored again in the 59th minute from a Safiq Rahim assist to put his side in front, before adding a 78th-minute penalty after Rahim was fouled by Linn Kyaw Swar
The result saw Johor finish second in the standings after Global FC of the Philippines wrapped up top spot with a 3-1 win over Cambodia's Beoungket Angkor in Wednesday's other Group F encounter, but 13 points was enough for the former champions to finish as the highest-placed runner-up and book their spot in the knockout round.
