Pyramids have confirmed the signing of Al Ahly’s right-back Ahmed Fathi for the upcoming season on a free transfer.
Fathi had announced his departure from Al Ahly at the end of the season after talks of a contract renewal fell through with the Red Devils.
The 35-year-old later revealed that his decision was based on lack of playing time as Fathi made a total of 17 appearances for Al Ahly this season.
Following his announcement, rumours have sparked regarding a potential move to league rivals Pyramids, which were confirmed on Saturday.
“Pyramids announces the signing of Egypt national team captain Ahmed Fathi on a free transfer,” a club statement said.
Throughout his Al Ahly career, Fathi made a total of 338 appearances for the Red Castle, scoring 24 goals and providing 61 assists in all competitions.
The former Ismaily man has guided his side to winning multiple trophies, including ten Egyptian Premier League titles and three CAF Champions League titles.
It’s worth noting that Fathi is one out of three Al Ahly veterans who will leave the club at the end of the season, including Sherif Ekramy and Hossam Ashour.
