The Battle of the North resumes Wednesday night at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton as Fury FC look to punch their ticket to the Canadian Championship semifinal and eliminate the Eddies for a second straight year. After claiming victory in the first leg with a 1-0 win over Edmonton last Wednesday in the nation’s capital, Fury FC played the Tampa Bay Rowdies to a scoreless draw on Saturday in USL action, extending the club’s unbeaten run to five contests in all competition.

After claiming victory in the first leg with a 1-0 win over Edmonton last Wednesday in the nation’s capital, Fury FC played the Tampa Bay Rowdies to a scoreless draw on Saturday in USL action, extending the club’s unbeaten run to five contests in all competition.
With the confidence continuing to grow and their defensive play looking stronger with every match, Ottawa will meet Edmonton for the 17th time in its history and with so much on the line Wednesday night, expect more fireworks between these two rivals. With the away goal serving as the tie-breaker, a Fury FC goal in Edmonton would force the Eddies to score three goals to advance. A result Wednesday in Alberta won’t be an easy feat with FC Edmonton posting an impressive record of 17W-4D-4L in their last 25 fixtures at home.
Paul Dalglish was able to rest some of his starters in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at TD Place with the Rowdies in an effort to limit the fatigue-factor of his squad who will be playing its fourth match in eleven days in this midweek clash.
For the Eddies, they are come into action coming off a 0-0 draw in Indianapolis on Saturday with head coach Colin Miller believing that it was a result that could represent a change in fortune for his side. While it proves to be a vital point for FC Edmonton in the NASL standings, it also marks that third straight match that Miller’s squad has been held scoreless.
Even though he didn’t make the trip to TD Place last week, Ottawa could see a familiar face in former Fury FC midfielder Mauro Eustaquio, who is now a member of FC Edmonton.
Fury FC will quickly shift focus as the club is coming back to TD Place Saturday afternoon to host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

“We can’t think about what happen in the first leg, we have to go into that game to win it. To maximize the effect of keeping a clean sheet at home you have to score when you go on the road. Obviously, we still have to keep that defensive structure tight, but we really want to focus on the offensive piece now to be more effective, create more chances and score more goals.”
Fury FC Goalkeeper, Callum Irving:
“I think that the key for the second leg is to keep the intensity and pressure that we had in the first leg. Obviously, we have the advantage but that can disappear quickly if we're not focused defensively. So we need to be able to start the game clean and then try and impose our game on them and hope that it takes us into the next round."
Fury FC Midfielder, Jonathan Barden:
“I think not allowing any away goals and keeping a clean sheet at home was massive. On top of that, we were able to get the winner late on so it means if we can score in Edmonton they then have to score three. So I think it’s important that we don’t sit back on the lead and soak up too much pressure, instead we want to go out aggressively as we always do, get another goal and put this tie to bed.”
