Key midfielder Abdallah El-Said scored a hat-trick and striker Souleymane Coulibaly netted once to guide Ahly to victory against lowly side Nasr lel Taadeen 4-0 on Monday, going clear to the top of the Egyptian Premiere League table.
The victory brings the Reds closer to securing their 39th League title, which would be the ninth in 10 seasons, as they currently 11 points ahead of nearest challengers and second-placed Maqassa, who lost 1-0 to Petrojet on Saturday, with six matches remaining.
The win against Taadeen comes as a morale boost for Ahly players ahead of opening their group stage campaign of the Champions League at home against Zambia's Zanaco on Saturday.
Ahly dominated the match from the start; with Mido Gaber and Rami Rabia missing two chances to score in the first 15 minutes, but their mission was not an easy one amid the tightened defence of their opponents.
Ahly trials to hit the net continued amid rare chances for Taadeen, but the two teams lacked efficiency against the goal.
Three minutes past the half-hour mark, Ahly's real break came when active winger Ahmed Fathi sent a perfect pass to key midfielder Abdallah El-Said, who went one on one with the keeper to score the opener with a perfect right foot shot.
Both teams tried to reach the goal in the remaining minutes before the break, but in vain.
More goals in second half
The second half scenario was not a pleasant one for Taadeen players, who failed to prevent their team from suffering three other goals.
Ahly's Abdallah El-Said continued his superb performance, doubling the score on minute 51 after receiving a pass from Mido Gaber to send a shot from inside the area that left the keeper helpless.
Just 10 minutes later, Taadeen's woes continued when Gaber made his second assist by sending a perfect pass to Ivorian striker Coulibaly, who scored the third goal with a strong header.
Seeing the Reds were in full control of the match, El-Said ended the day on a high note; achieving his first-ever hat-trick when he scored the fourth goal from a perfect header on minute 70.
