Chinese Super League defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande fumbled a 2-0 lead and were stalled by Beijing Guoan in a 2-2 thriller on Sunday.
Evergrande's coach Fabio Cannavaro said:"I am very gutted, we played a good game, we seized the opportunities when we had the advantage. We should have ended the game with 3-0, but just like what I have said before the game, if we want to take 3 points from here, no mistake can be tolerated, it's a regret that we could not hold the pressure in the last stage of the game."
Beijing Guoan fielded almost the strongest line-up while Guangzhou Evergrande missed Ricardo Goulart, Alan and playmaker Zheng Zhi.
Both sides didn't create real chances in the first-half, and the hosts were forced to replace injured Li Lei with Liu Huan.
After a goalless half-half, Guoan should have found the net 5 minutes into the second-half when Jiang Tao's long pass released Cedric Bakambu, but his attempt went wide of the post.
Bakambu continued testing Guangzhou Evergrande as his low strike was denied by Zeng Cheng.
Guangzhou Evergrande broke the deadlock at 68th minute as Li Xuepeng rolled acorss from the left, Guoan's defender made a poor clearance and Nemanja Gudelj hit a volley in at the back post.
The away side quickly added another with a counter. Gao Lin won back possession from the by-line, his looped pass found unmarked Zheng Long in the box who squared for Yu Hanchao to have the ball in the net.
Bakambu went down in the box under Deng Hanwen's challenge on 88 minutes, winning a penalty for Guoan while Deng was sent off for another yellow. Renato Augusto pulled one goal back by converting the penalty.
Miracle happened one minute later when Bakambu's header met Jiang Tao's cross from the right to beat Zeng Cheng and settle the game 2-2.
