Jamie Carragher explains how Liverpool FC tried to stop Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United

Jamie Carragher has revealed that Liverpool came up with a special plan to try and minimise Cristiano Ronaldo's effectiveness during his time at Manchester United.
The Portugal international became a threat with his unique free-kick technique throughout his latter years at Old Trafford.
But Carragher says that Liverpool came up with a specific ploy to try and reduce the effect of his long-range efforts.
"I can't really remember coming up against him too often, I think when Ronaldo came I'd moved to centre-back and he was playing out wide," Carragher told Sky Sports.
"I'll be honest, I don't think he was ever at his best in those Liverpool games. We were a really good side then, strong defensively.
"I think we used to talk about him in terms of set-pieces and free-kicks.
"I always remember we had one where Ronaldo was scoring so many free-kicks, I think in the last couple of years at Manchester United, we actually talked about putting the wall deeper than 10 yards.
"That's something we did in training and in the game. Ronaldo used to do this shot that used to just dip over the wall, so if you actually changed the distance of the wall it makes it a little bit different for him.
"He's only just realising when he puts the ball down that the wall is 12 or 13 yards back as opposed to 10.
"It was always more with set-pieces with Ronaldo rather than something specific in general play.
"I think in the main, in general play, we weren't too bad. He was a huge threat.
"To be honest, I think he was a better player at Real Madrid. I think he moved on a level from what he was at Manchester United. We never came up against him at Real Madrid."
