Egyptian journalist Omar Rabie Yassin has tweeted that Newcastle are interested in Aston Villa winger Mahmoud Trezeguet.
This tweet simply translates to:
Newcastle United make a bid for Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, Aston Villa player.
We have to assume that the Google translation is somewhat off and that Yassin may mean Newcastle are after Trezeguet instead of having already launched a bid for him. He could be a player on Steve Nickson’s extensive scouting list he has compiled this season.
This is the first we’ve heard of any interest Newcastle have in the 25-year-old, who just joined Aston Villa last summer for £9m from Turkish club Kasimpasa.
He’s had a decent first season in the Premier League making 31 appearances, but only 13 of those have been league starts.
Though his return of 4 goals and 3 assists is not too bad for a team that has spent much of the season battling against relegation.
Earlier today Manu Lonjon, who also tweeted about Newcastle’s takeover, claimed that Galatasaray were trying to bring the winger back to Turkey.
Trezeguet ( Aston Villa) pourrait partir cet été . Si des discussions avec Besiktas ont été évoqués, c’est Galatasaray qui avance actuellement avec l’international Égyptien. Il viendrait en cas de départ de Sofiane Feghouli.

Lonjon’s tweet translates to:
Trezeguet (Aston Villa) could leave this summer. If discussions with Besiktas were mentioned, it is Galatasaray who is currently advancing with the Egyptian international. He would come if Sofiane Feghouli leaves.
We’re not too sure about Newcastle’s link to Trezeguet. He’s a decent enough player but doesn’t really improve the squad. This summer, we hope that Newcastle will bring in 3 to 4 players of real quality to take this team to the next level.
