Attacker Matteo Politano claims Gennaro Gattuso and Antonio Conte are of a similar style and admits he ‘can’t wait to score my first goal’ for Napoli.
The 26-year-old left Inter after struggling to establish himself under Conte at the Giuseppe Meazza and moved to Naples for a new challenge with Gattuso’s men.
Politano has yet to score in Serie A this term, after 16 appearances in total, but pointed out that the two coaches share a similar approach.
“There aren’t many differences between them, they’re two coaches who put their soul into their work, maybe they have a different formation and training sessions,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “Perhaps Conte makes you work longer, whilst Gattuso works less but with high intensity.”
“The Azzurri fans are very warm and it’s nice to be a Napoli player. I can’t wait to score my first goal in this shirt. On a collective level, however, the goal is to win as many games as possible to get to Europe. We must giver our best to reach this goal.”
Politano has been capped three times by Italy and only appeared once in the Euro 2020 qualifiers, but he insisted that the ultimate goal is to play regularly for the national team.
“Italy is my goal; the European Championship has been postponed until 2021 and I will have another year to convince [coach Roberto] Mancini. I will have to show him that I’m ready."
