Al Ahly have identified Mamelodi Sundowns forward Gaston Sirino as a potential replacement for Ramadan Sobhi.
Sobhi, 23, is set to return to English side Huddersfield Town at the end of the season after a two-year loan spell, which the Egyptian giants forked out £800 000 (R18-million) to secure.
And reports in Egypt suggest that manager Rene Weiler has drawn up a list of targets, with Sirino included, after he impressed the Swiss manager during their recent CAF Champions League encounters.
According to EuroSport Arabia, Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib also expressed his admiration for the Uruguayan after his standout performance in the Champions League quarter-final return leg.
'Bibo' as he is affectionately known travelled with the Red Devils squad to the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium last month where Sirino netted in the 1-1 draw.
An insider at the record eight-time African champions confirmed to KickOff.com that Sirino is "one of several targets" for next season and remains hopeful that an agreement can be reached.
However, the club is understood to have been issued a hands-off warning for the 29-year-old, who has become a central figure in coach Pitso Mosimane's starting line-up.
Attempts to contact The Brazilians over the future of Sirino proved futile as the club refused to be drawn into the speculation rising within Egyptian media.
Sirino enjoyed an impressive campaign before football was suspended with 11 goals and seven assists in 32 games across all competitions.
