Black Leopards have qualified for the lucrative PSL Playoffs after thrashing Jomo Cosmos 3-0 while Uthongathi FC and Richards Bay FC escaped relegation.
It was the same situation for Ubuntu Cape Town, who overpowered Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 3-1, meaning Super Eagles dropped back into the ABC Motsepe League after they could only draw 1-1 with already-relegated Mthatha Bucks.
There was some early drama at Thohoyandou Stadium, where both teams lost players following an aerial collision between Cosmos’ goalkeeper, King Ndlovu and Leopard’s top scorer, Mwapa Musonda.
Soon after, Lidoda Duvha took the lead via Karabo Tshepe before he doubled it within just a few minutes.
Joseph Mhlongo then made it 3-0 and it should have been four at half-time but, despite television cameras clearly showing that the ball had crossed the line, the official failed to award the goal.
Uthongathi FC, Richards Bay and Super Eagles began the afternoon with 31 points all looking over their shoulders to see whether Ubuntu Cape Town would grab a victory at home against TTM.
In the end, Ubuntu did manage to earn victory thanks to Rodwill Bezuidenhout, Siyabonga Madikane and Kamohelo Mahlatsi, while Lesvin Stoffels was on target for the Limpopo side.
Super Eagles were therefore relegated on goal difference.
NFD champions Highlands Park cruised to a 3-0 win over Stellenbosch FC to secure a 25-game unbeaten run at the Athlone Stadium, where the trophy and medals were presented to their triumphant squad.
In other games, Royal Eagles defeated Witbank Spurs 1-0 and Cape Town All Stars showed Real Kings who was best by winning 2-1.
