Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Steven Gerrard is the one retired Anfield legend he would love to have in his current side.
Gerrard left Liverpool at the end of the 2014/15 season, five months before Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers midway through the following campaign.
The German, appearing on BT Sport, was asked which one former Red he would love to have, in his prime, as part of his current squad.
And while the 52-year-old had no hesitation in picking Gerrard over greats like John Barnes, Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush, he warned the now Rangers boss he would have to earn his shirt.
“Easy. Steven Gerrard, Stevie. That’s easy!" he said. "But he'd have to fight for it [his place in the team]."
Gerrard is currently back at home in Formby with his family during the coronavirus lockdown and Klopp revealed how the pair have been seeing more of each other than ever, albeit in line with social distancing measures.
“The funny part is that I think I live for four-and-a-half years in the same town as Steven Gerrard and I met him never before, but since the lockdown I saw him already six or seven times," said Klopp.
"I go for a dog walk or a run or whatever, and he has a walk with the family and stuff like this so we saw each other more often than in all the time together before.
“One day I was on the phone with Gerard Houllier and met Steven Gerrard in the same moment, so that was really cool!
"These kind of things happen only in lockdown so some positive things happened for me as well.”
