Everton To Rival Borussia Dortmund For Talented Brazilian Serie A Forward: Good Option For Ancelotti?

According to a recent report by Globo Esporte, Everton have registered their interest in acquiring the services of Gremio winger Everton Soares this summer. However, the same source has also claimed that the Toffees will have to battle it out with Borussia Dortmund for the right to land the Brazil international when the transfer reopens later this year. It is believed that Everton’s current contract at Gremio runs out in the summer of 2023 so the Brazilian outfit will be under no pressure to cash in on him in the off-season (via Globo Esporte).

Everton’s Recent Rise In Brazilian Football

The Maracanau-born wide player came through the youth ranks of Fortaleza before joining Gremio at a young age back in 2013. He has gone on to make 138 appearances for the Brazilian Serie A giants, registering 36 goals and 14 assists in all competitions. His record at Gremio is quite impressive but whether it will be good enough to earn him a move away from his homeland, remains to be seen.
The 24-year-old is versatile enough to play in multiple positions across the frontline which makes him a valuable asset in Renato Portaluppi’s squad. His incredible contributions have not gone unnoticed and have earned him 11 senior caps for the Brazilian national team. Everton has scored three goals for his nation thus far and will be in with a shout to be named in Tite’s squad for the Copa America which has been delayed until the end of next season due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak.

What Does The Brazilian Attacker Offer On The Pitch?

Everton can use his blistering pace to complete some lung-bursting dribbles out on the wide areas. When he is playing with full confidence, he can be an unstoppable force in the final third. The Brazilian speedster is also an accurate passer of the ball and can create some decent openings for his teammates going forward. He has also added goals to his game and is currently one of the most promising young wide players in South American football.

Will The Gremio Wing Wizard Serve As A Decent Option For The Toffees?

Carlo Ancelotti needs to freshen up his squad this summer if he wants to build a team capable of challenging for major trophies in the coming years. Hence, a forward of Everton’s skillset will undeniably be a massive coup for the Toffees as he will add some much-needed pace and creativity to Ancelotti’s frontline.
The likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin need more help from the players behind them if they are to find the back of the net consistently at the highest level. Theo Walcott, Bernard and Alex Iwobi have all struggled to find form at Goodison Park this season. So the Gremio star could turn out to be a significant upgrade over them as he has the proven track record to deliver match-winning displays from the flanks.
Everton will also instil a winning mentality in Ancelotti’s dressing room as he knows what it takes to taste success, having already won several trophies for both his club and country which include a winner’s medal each in the Copa America and the Copa Libertadores. All in all, the pros outweigh any cons of signing him, which makes him a worthy option for the Merseyside club ahead of the new season.
