With the gates of BMO last opened over a month ago, Toronto FC supporters have been forced to reminisce on the past to get their footy fix.
What better way to do so than tuning in to club legend Sebastian Giovinco reflect on his time with the Reds.
Giovinco joined a Footy Talks panel hosted Thursday afternoon by Kristian Jack, Luke Wileman, and Steven Caldwell to discuss his time in the city overall as well as his super sub appearance against the New York Red Bulls back in October 2015.

The Italian recalled playing for his country the day before coming off the bench to score the infamous goal that secured TFC’s first ever postseason berth.
“I went straight to the BMO, without even seeing my family,” said Giovinco. “I demonstrate to everyone, how much I love my teammates, how much I love the game, how much I love the city, the fans, the organization... for me that was a special moment.”
While the 2015 MLS Most Valuable Player recalls the goal with great fondness, his preference was to start the match, a decision which in hindsight Head Coach Greg Vanney got right.
“I asked Greg to start in the XI but he said ‘no, it’s better if you can come on in the second half’.”
2015 was Giovinco’s best year with TFC from an individual standpoint, racking up 22 goals and earning both Golden Boot and MVP honours in his debut MLS campaign.
Despite this, the 2017 treble season remains the most memorable in a Red shirt for the Turin native, with the MLS Cup victory standing out above the rest.
“That night was unbelievable for the entire city, the entire country... for everybody it was special.”
The 33-year-old also looked back on the special bond he shared with former teammate Jozy Altidore, a duo which has a combined 124 goals in 226 MLS appearances for TFC.
The chemistry between the two was obvious on the pitch, but Giovinco says their relationship was one that went beyond football.
“We complement each other, I have a great memory of Jozy,“ said Giovinco. “He was a very good teammate, and a very good person, and yes I miss Jozy so much.”
Many Reds supporters may have tuned in with hopes of hearing Seba declare his wishes to return to Toronto to play again one day.
For now, all they can do is appreciate the greatness he brought during his TFC tenure and have faith that his admiration for Altidore and the whole of Toronto is enough to bring him back again in the future.
