Caputo: 'Players want to resume'

Sassuolo forward Francesco Caputo has claimed 'us footballers' want to resume play and said Juventus have again ‘proved to be the best team’ in Serie A.
During the last match before the forced break, Caputo celebrated scoring in an empty stadium by sending a comforting message to the audience at home.
In the event of a resumption, the League could still be forced to carry on behind closed doors, but the Neroverdi star claimed ‘starting again will mean having taken the first step’ out of the emergency.
“The idea of us footballers is to finish the championship, even during the summer,” Caputo told the Corriere dello Sport. “The conditions must be there, but by taking the necessary precautions for us and the people who work in football, I think it is correct to conclude the campaign.
“If the championship resumes, the message will be positive for the whole country. Maybe it won’t be the best thing to play behind closed doors but starting again will mean having taken the first step towards returning to normality.
“Going to the stadium is about joy and it’s nice for the players to see the fans in the stands. Initially I imagine that there will be some fear among the people, but as soon as you can return to cheer in safe conditions, the matches will be exciting again.”
Caputo thinks the COVID-19 pandemic will change our habits and predicts a ‘more careful’ population coming out of the current emergency.
“It will mark us, for sure. I’m convinced we will be much more careful to have contact with people and going to crowded places, perhaps when we are using public transport.
“Many of our habits will disappear, at least until there’s a vaccine.”
Speaking about the current season, Caputo has revealed his admiration of Lazio forward Ciro Immobile but insisted that Juventus are still the strongest side in Italy.
“It has shown us that Juve are always the best team in the competition and they are proving it on the pitch, but the team that has impressed the most are Lazio,” he added. “I am a great admirer of Immobile, a striker who is doing great things.
“Compliments also to Atalanta, who have had a formidable journey both in Italy and in Europe, impressing me more and more with every season.”
Sassuolo are currently 11th in Serie A and are seven points behind Napoli at sixth, and Caputo has claimed the Neroverdi are prepared to surprise their opponents.
“If we pick up from where we left off, we can become the surprise of Serie A. I believe so.”
