Lazio Coach Simone Inzaghi believes a European Super Cup against Roma would be “marvellous for the city” and Italian football.
The two sides clash in the Derby della Capitale on Sunday evening in Serie A and are currently joint third in the league table.
More surprisingly, they are also flying the flag for calcio in Europe this season.
Roma humiliated Barcelona 3-0 last night to reach the Champions League semi-final, while Lazio have a 4-2 first leg lead over RB Salzburg in the Europa League quarter-final.
If both went on to win their respective tournaments, the European Super Cup would be another Rome Derby.
“It’d be marvellous for the city,” smiled Inzaghi on Sky Sport Italia.
“Roma are already a step ahead of us, as they booked their place in the semi-final, whereas we still need to earn ours. We are 90 minutes away from the semis and will give it our all.
“I compliment Roma, who did so well and proved why you have to believe in ties that run over 180 minutes. Hopefully, Juventus can overturn their defeat to Real Madrid tonight and qualify too.”
