Chelsea star Eden Hazard, who is a transfer target for Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid, has a contract with the club till the summer of 2020.
Chelsea winger and Real Madrid target Eden Hazard has revealed he is waiting on the club’s summer transfer window to pan out, before committing his future to the club, as per a report from the Independent.
The 27-year old has a contract with the Blues that runs till the summer of 2020, but the club are keen on extending his stay further and have been trying to get him to sign a new deal for sometime now. However, Hazard has revealed that he wants to see the quality of players that the club will sign in the summer, before putting pen to a new deal with the club.
“I want good players, because I want to win next season the Premier League,” the Belgian international claimed ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup final against Manchester United this weekend.
Chelsea have had a disappointing 2017/18 campaign on many levels. The Blues put up a very feeble defence of their Premier League title and ended up fifth in the table, missing out on qualification to the UEFA Champions League as well. Their European campaign also came to a halt in the Round of 16 stages only, as they were dumped out by Barcelona.
The FA Cup offers the West Londoners an opportunity to salvage something out of the season.
Despite his club’s struggles, the former Lille man has had a solid campaign on a personal level, scoring 16 goals and registering 13 assists in 51 appearanaces across all competitions. And Chelsea know the importance of keeping a player of Hazard’s quality at the club after what has been a difficult campaign, and are willing to offer him a deal worth wages of £300,000-per-week.
The Belgian, however, wants to see if the club will match his ambition with new signings of similar status, especially given the opportunity of joining Real Madrid also on the horizon. Los Blancos have been interested in the Belgian wizard for quite some time now, with manager Zinedine Zidane admittedly a huge admirer of the player.
Having been beaten comprehensively by Barcelona in La Liga, the Spanish giants are keen on strengthening the squad and see Hazard as a vital addition to the ranks. And with Welsh international Gareth Bale’s future at the club under a cloud of doubt, a move for the 27-year old Chelsea star makes total sense for the Merengues.
After what has been a poor season, it is understandable that Hazard would want to assess his options and see what path the club takes before he commits his best years, especially with Real Madrid lurking in the corners.
