Jorginho reveals his biggest regret at Napoli, why he’s doing better at Chelsea now and Maurizio Sarri is “extraordinary on a tactical level.”
The midfielder spoke to comedy group Gli Autogol in an Instagram live discussion, discussing his career at Napoli, Chelsea and the Italy squad.
“I had important years at Napoli and it was so emotional when my mother and wife came to watch us win the Coppa Italia Final in Rome,” said Jorginho.
“The Europa League Final with Chelsea was another great memory.”
He moved to Stamford Bridge with coach Sarri, who had already worked with him at Napoli.
“Sarri is a magnificent coach, he’s extraordinary on a tactical level. He prepares in such detail that he knows the answer to any question you ask him. I struggled a little at the beginning, but now that I can speak English more fluently and communicate, it’s much easier.”
Jorginho was asked for his biggest career regret and it harks back to Napoli.
“In my first season at Napoli, I decided to take a vacation in Brazil and did nothing for a month. I just sat around, didn’t train and ate loads. I was totally out of shape when I returned to Naples and lost my place in the team, as Rafa Benitez no longer trusted me.
“He was absolutely right, there were teammates in vastly better shape than me at the time. Going back, I wouldn’t take that vacation.”
