Alessandro Del Piero, the forward of Juventus and Italy men’s national team fame, asserted that LAFC star Carlos Vela could again play in Europe if he so desired.
But how Del Piero sees it, according to a recent ESPN interview, the reigning Landon Donovan MLS MVP already has a great club situation. He also gave a nod to Banc of California Stadium and the 3252 supporters' union.
“Los Angeles is a great place to live, also to play football, because [LAFC] has a good plan to build the team, the stadium, the stadium experience is great,” Del Piero said.
Vela initially joined LAFC ahead of their 2018 expansion season after spending over a decade in Europe. He was last with La Liga side Real Sociedad, and was on the books at Premier League side Arsenal from 2005-12 with various loan stints.
Vela, 31, has since taken MLS by storm as highlighted by a record-setting 2019 season of 34 goals and 15 assists that powered LAFC to the Supporters’ Shield. With that sort of quality, Del Piero believes Vela could slot into almost any league and find success.
“I think he could [play in Europe],” Del Piero said. “He’s the perfect type of player for Mexico and South America, but I think he can also play in Europe, because he’s physically strong and he has a great left foot."
