Tusker striker Timothy Otieno struck a brace against Chemelil Sugar to go clear on the Kenyan Premier League top scorers' chart.
Otieno scored twice in the second half to ensure the Brewers secured a 2-0 win against the struggling Sugar Millers at Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday, having previously beaten them 7-0 earlier in the campaign.
The former Gor Mahia striker is now leading his rivals on 15 goals, three more than his closest challenger Enock Agwanda of KCB, who failed to find the back of the net against Nzoia Sugar.
The 2016 KPL winners were unable to break the deadlock in the first half as the visitors were firm in their defence and also launched attacks cautiously and sparingly.
Otieno, Sammy Meja and Kevin Okoth all came close to registering the opener but their attempts were thwarted by the Sugar Millers.
Otieno got the first goal in the 54th minute to help the Brewers register a deserved win. At that point, the striker became the clear leader on the Golden Boot race with his 14th goal of the season, replacing former AFC Leopards man John Makwatta.
Midfielder Jackson Macharia could have doubled Tusker's lead four minutes past the hour mark but his low header hit the post as Chemelil struggled to keep Tusker at bay.
Otieno struck again in stoppage time to earn his 15th goal of the season and hand Tusker their 13th win of the season. They move up to 46 points, four fewer than leaders Gor Mahia who are in action on Sunday.
Saturday's victory also means Tusker have ended their two-game winless streak, having drawn both of their last two matches.
