Rangers winger Jordan Jones has again been linked with moves to a number of English clubs – and the Light Blues must seriously consider his future is the right bid comes in.
Middlesbrough, Stoke City, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers have all been credited with an interest in the winger and it might work out best for all parties if he heads elsewhere – even if on a temporary basis.
Last week, Rangers News’ Jordan Carlisle made the case for Jones staying but a move away might just work out best.
Jones has been out of action since injuring himself at the start of September and will be behind the curve in terms of match fitness and it will likely be a while before Rangers – or anyone else – starts to see the best of him.
The recent tactical tweak by Steven Gerrard to move his two wide forwards into a more narrower position also doesn’ particularly suit Jones’ style of play but appears to have been getting the best out of Joe Aribo and Scott Arfield recently.
That could see the Northern Irishman pushed down the pecking order even more after his own stupidity caused him to miss several months of action following his summer move from Kilmarnock, and the longer he is out of the side, the harder he’ll find it to eventually get back in.
Going away and playing regularly on loan could see him return in the summer and restake his claim for a place in the side next season might be something that Jones would be interested in – although he may well want to stay and prove his quality.
While he might well make a better option than the likes of Sheyi Ojo or Brandon Barker, he needs to be playing consistently after months on the sidelines and it doesn’t seem that likely he’ll get that at Ibrox after the winter break.
