Liverpool appear to have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze.
According to Foot Mercato, the Reds are among the potential suitors for the attacker, who seems ‘promised’ to join a Premier League club in the near future despite interest from Ligue 1 giants Lyon.
Chukweuze has been previously linked with Liverpool, and it looks like England could be the next destination for the Nigeria international.
The 20-year-old, as per Foot Mercato, is allowed to leave Villarreal for €40 million even though his current release clause is priced at €63 million.

Liverpool already have a wealth of options in the wide areas, with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri all at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
However, Foot Mercato’s report indicates that another winger is being lined up, and the man in question is seemingly Chukwueze.
The Nigerian has made 18 La Liga appearances for Villarreal this season, as per Transfermarkt, and has found the back of the net on three occasions while chipping in with another three assists.
Chukwueze has largely operated as a right-sided winger this season, indicating that his arrival would spell competition for Shaqiri as the deputy to Salah on the flank.
However, the Switzerland international’s future at Anfield is hardly certain, with reports leading up to the January transfer window suggesting he is a target for Galatasaray.
Chukwueze, on paper, would be a signing with the long-term in mind. He is eight years younger than Shaqiri, 28, and has drawn comparisons to Arjen Robben in previous times.
The pacy, direct Villarreal man could provide Klopp with another high-quality option in attack, but he would not come cheaply, and the reported demand of €40 million is a significant outlay for Liverpool to consider.
