Pep Guardiola labels Gabriel Jesus the future of Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed striker Gabriel Jesus as the future of the club.

The Brazilian has been hugely impressive since linking up with the club in January, and, although he wasn’t on the scoresheet in the 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace today, Guardiola has backed Jesus to fulfil his vast potential.
As reported by the club’s official website, Guardiola said: “He will be the future and he is a striker that will be here for the next years. Good players always make a good impact.
“The top players are top players and sometimes you need time but the other ones, mentally they are strong, arrive and wow.
“We are the team in the Premier League who create more chances than anyone else but not in terms of who has scored goals. That is our problem.
“Scoring a goal is so complicated. If one guy is fast, he is fast but scoring goals is hard.”

Possessing searing speed, Jesus is an extremely difficult player to defend against and he has scored four times in six Premier League appearances for City.

Jesus is now thriving again after a spell out injured and has linked play well this campaign, completing 85% of his attempted passes and succeeding with 75% of his take-ons.

City’s victory against Palace boosted their chances of securing a top four finish in the Premier League, although Guardiola will doubtless still be disappointed that his first campaign in England will end without him lifting a trophy.
With Jesus looking extremely sharp, though, there is every chance that next season could be a successful one for City.
