Kamara, Steffen pace Crew past Revolution

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ola Kamara had goal and an assist and Zack Steffen made five saves as Columbus Crew SC ended a two-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over the New England Revolution on Saturday.
The Crew improved to 5-4-1 while the Revolution fell to 2-4-4 and have two losses and three ties in their past five games.
Steffen made back-to-back saves on Diego Fagundez and Lee Nguyen in the 82nd minute to preserve the rookie's third shutout. Steffen also helped set up Federico Higuain's goal in the 53rd minute to make it 2-0 with a long outlet pass to Kamara.
The Crew had not scored first in the previous four games but Kamara changed that in the 13th minute. He collected a through ball by Justin Meram down the left flank that split two defenders.
Kamara took the ball in stride and placed his strike inside the far post for his sixth goal of the season. He has 22 goals in 30 career MLS starts.
New England settled down and nearly got the equalizer in the 22nd minute, but Nguyen smacked the crossbar with a shot from 25 yards.
Higuain got his third goal, second in as many games, on a give-and-go with Kamara. Higuain stepped into the return pass and buried a shot from 20 yards for his sixth goal versus the Revolution in 10 career matches.
Crew coach Gregg Berhalter was ejected in the 77th minute after arguing that New England defender Je-Vaughn Watson should have been given more than a yellow card for effectively clotheslining Crew midfielder Niko Hansen.
The last of two meetings between the teams this season is May 21 at New England.
The Crew completes a three-game homestand on Wednesday vs. Toronto FC. New England is home to play Real Salt Lake on May 13
