Manchester United and Manchester City will battle for the signature of AS Monaco’s Bernardo Silva this summer, according to reports.
It was recently reported that Jose Mourinho, who views Silva as a priority, had contacted the French side over an opening figure for the Brazilian midfielder.
Silva has been an instrumental asset for Monaco during their charge towards the title this season, dismantling Ligue 1 midfielders with his mazy style on the ball.
And according to Le10Sport, Mourinho and Pep Guardiola face a fight over the 22-year-old’s signature over the transfer window.
One thing that could play into United’s advantage ahead of the summer is their already well-established relationship with Monaco – something developed through deals involving Radamel Falcao and Anthony Martial over the last few years.
That said, Mourinho would have no leverage over Guardiola in his pursuit of Silva if Man United fail to secure a Champions League spot next season – a necessary pre-requisite for the midfielder when it comes to deciding his next club.
Both Mourinho and Guardiola have struggled to establish themselves in the Premier League this season but acquiring Silva – who dismantled both Man City and Tottenham Hotspur this season – would send out a big message to the rest of the top six ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
