Suwon: Tatsuki Nara scored the only goal as Kawasaki Frontale secured their first win of the 2017 AFC Champions League following a narrow 1-0 victory over Suwon Samsung Bluewings on Tuesday to maintain their qualification hopes as Group G was thrown wide open.
Kawasaki dominated possession from start to finish at Suwon World Cup Stadium, but the hosts enjoyed the better of the first-half chances with Park Gi-dong and Ko Seung-beom both wasting good opportunities to open the scoring.
But with the second-half just moments old, Nara leapt high to meet Kengo Nakamura’s deep free-kick with a powerful header to hand the visitors the lead. Kawasaki went on to enjoy the better of the game but almost saw their advantage disappear in the final moments when Suwon defender Koo Ja-ryong fired straight at goalkeeper Jung Sung-ryong from six yards out.
The result leaves Kawasaki on seven points, one point behind Suwon heading into the final round of games. But with the K League Classic side to meet Guangzhou Evergrande on Matchday Six, Kawasaki will advance to the last 16 with a victory over Hong Kong's Eastern SC.
