West Brom 0-1 Chelsea – Player Ratings

Chelsea won the Premier League title with a nail biting win over West Brom at the Hawthorns.
The Blues struggled to break down a tough Baggies team who resisted a fierce first half assault. As the second half wore on it looked as though Antonio Conte’s team had run out of ideas, but Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to knock in the winner.
Here are our ratings from yesterday’s featured Chelsea players…

Starting Eleven:

Thibaut Courtois – 7 – Made a good save in the early moment to deny Rondon. Some nice distribution to set up counter attacks. Claimed countless crosses and corners safely.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 7 – Consistent defensively and tried his best to provide threat in attack despite not being particularly in his element. A few stray passes in the second half. Made a great block on Salomon Rondon as he looked to score on the break, and then put in the vital pass for Michy Batshuayi.
David Luiz – 7 – Defensively solid but unable to unlock a stubborn West Brom team with long passes. resisted a second half aerial assault and didn’t lose his head as things got desperate.
Gary Cahill – 7 – Threatened with a few shots early on and did his job defensively throughout a game in which he spent large period in the opposition half.
Victor Moses – 8 – Put pressure on West Brom’s left side from early and took a brilliant shot on the cut in early in the second half that almost gave the Blues the lead.
Nemanja Matic – 7 – A few strong early bursts forward but also took the pace off a few moves on the edge of the box with loose touches. Had the chance to shoot on several occasions but didn’t risk trying to repeat his stunner against Tottenham Hotspur.
Cesc Fabregas – 8 – Pinged passes around from the very start, cutting open West Brom for his teammates repeatedly. Took several decent long range efforts as the game progressed, and ended up being the most effective player in Blue.
Marcos Alonso – 7 – Got forward a lot without making the killer cross that could have made the difference in an open first half. Worked tirelessly in the second period both going forward and against West Brom’s aerial threat.
Pedro – 7 – Looked on it from the first whistle, making dangerous runs and darting between defenders. Faded badly in the second half though and was replaced having been unable to break the deadlock.
Diego Costa – 7 – Far too quiet in the first half, and messed up a couple of promising 1-2s, although he had no clear cut chances to take. Fired a bicycle kick on goal early in the second half, but just couldn’t find the yard to get a shot away.
Eden Hazard – 7 – Did his best throughout but couldn’t fire the spark that would have set the Blues on their way. Eventually replaced by Willian as Antonio Conte tried everything to batter Tony Pulis’ door down.
