ETOILE DU SAHEL HIT FIVE, USMA STRIKE THREE

Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel and USM Alger got off their campaigns at the group stage with convincing wins on Friday night.

Etoile, winners in 2007, were simply too much for Mozambican debutants, Ferroviario da Beira, handing them a 5-0 thrashing in Group A Day One clash in Sousse.

Brazilian Diogo Farias da Silva “Acosta” scored in either halve before goals from Alkhaly Bangoura, Hamza Lahmar and Hameur Bouazza handed “Les Diables Rouges” one of their biggest wins in recent times.

In a one sided match, Acosta began the goal harvest on 15 minutes connecting a rebound after Ferroviario goalie Soares Soares spilled his way.

The Brazilian turned provider to set up Guinean Bangoura for the second goal on 37 minutes, to give the homers a two-goal lead at the interval.

On 58 minutes, Lahmar increased the tally with a free-kick which beat Soares before Algerian Bouazza, formerly of English sides Watford and Fulham, took the game beyond the visitors with the fourth goal on the hour mark.

Acosta completed the rout with his second of the game on 70 minutes, and push Etoile to the summit of the group.

In Group B, USM Alger led 2-0 at half time against Ahly Tripoli of Libya courtesy strikes from Farouk Chafai and Malagasy forward Carolus Andriamahitsinoro. Substitute Oussama Darfalou sealed victory seven minutes from time.
