Manchester United have invited supporters to secure their spot in the virtual Old Trafford crowd for the Premier League's restart.
The club have announced they will be using a fan mosaic using images from their supporters from around the world as part of an initiative to bring an atmosphere to the empty stadium.
All games will be played behind closed doors when the league recommences next week, due to social distancing measures still in place to limit the coronavirus pandemic.
The Premier League is discussing pumping artificial crowd noise into grounds, while in Germany some clubs have even used cardboard cut-outs of fans.
But United are intent on giving their players the feeling of having fans behind them at the Theatre of Dreams.
A club statement to fans said: "We know that nothing can replace the roar of the Old Trafford crowd as a packed stadium filled with thousands of Reds gets behind the team.
"But as the Premier League kicks off again next week behind closed doors, health guidelines mean our fans sadly can’t be present at the Theatre of Dreams for the vital remaining matches this season.
"We’ll still be working to make an empty Old Trafford look amazing for the team and for the millions watching at home, including an incredible mosaic image featuring our loyal fans.
"We’ll use the images to create a mosaic of our fans from across the globe to inspire the players during our home matches until real crowds return. The image will then be stored at our museum, to remember this unprecedented time when football had to temporarily be without the fans that make it so special.
"Whether you’re normally at Old Trafford for every game, or have never seen the Reds live and have always dreamed of taking your seat in the stadium, fans from near and far can have the opportunity to be inside the ground – supporting the players in virtual fashion from our famous stands so steeped in history."
Fans are being asked to head to the official United app and upload their image to be used in the mosiac.
United's campaign resumes away at Tottenham Hotspu r next Friday, with the first game at Old Trafford on June 24th when Sheffield United visit.
