Liverpool’s transfer balance was in credit last summer as several long-standing players left the club for pastures new.
Danny Ings raked in the biggest transfer fee, but there were also moves for the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Simon Mignolet and Alberto Moreno — a trio of players with over 500 appearances for the Reds between them.
How have they got on since leaving the European champions?
Daniel Sturridge
Sturridge was a key cog in the scintillating attack of Brendan Rodgers’ best Liverpool side during his early time with the club. After 160 games in six years at the club, the England international moved to Trabzonspor on a free transfer.
Sturridge made a decent start in the Turkish Super Lig, picking up four goals and four assists in just 11 appearances (and only seven starts).
However, his contract was terminated by mutual agreement last month after he received a four-month ban from football for breaching betting rules.
With Sturridge suspended from all football activity until June 18, it is not clear where the 30-year old’s career will take him next
Danny Ings
Ings joined Southampton for a fee of around £20m following a loan spell on the south coast in 2018/19 and he has been the most successful of the players who left Liverpool last summer.
Having only made eight starts in all competitions for the Reds over four years, Ings has started 23 in the Premier League alone this season.
With 15 goals, only four players in the top flight have scored more and he was strongly rumoured to be in line to add to his one international cap before football was put on indefinite hold.
Simon Mignolet
Like Sturridge, Mignolet spent six years at Anfield and was at his best during the 2013/14 title challenge. He made over 200 appearances for the club during his time on Merseyside before returning to his homeland last summer, joining Club Brugge.
The Belgian appeared in all 27 league games after he signed, keeping 16 clean sheets and conceding just 13 goals. The former Red will have enjoyed assisting a Europa League goal against Manchester United too.
With the 2019/20 Jupiler Pro League brought to a premature conclusion, Club Brugge have been declared champions and Mignolet will receive a league winner’s medal.
Alberto Moreno
Moreno made a stunning start to life in the Premier League, scoring a superb counter-attacking goal at Tottenham in August 2014. Though only two further goals followed, the Spaniard made a total of 141 appearances for Liverpool.
Upon leaving last summer, Moreno returned to Spain and joined Villarreal on a free transfer. But unfortunately three injuries have curtailed his impact, restricting the left-back to only nine La Liga appearances.
Moreno started and completed the last three league games prior to football’s enforced break, as he looked to be establishing himself in the team.
Ryan Kent
Kent’s impact at Liverpool was minimal, as he only appeared once in an FA Cup tie against Exeter City. However, he maintained a connection of sorts with the club by signing for Steven Gerrard at Rangers last summer, having spent the previous season on loan north of the border.
After a slow start thanks to a hamstring injury, Kent played in Rangers’ last 18 league games in a row, scoring seven goals.
Connor Randall
The young right-back, who made eight appearances for his home town club, made probably the most surprising move last year by signing for Arda Kardzhali in Bulgaria.
They are ninth in the 14-team league, and Randall has appeared in 10 of their 14 matches since his debut.
