Bundesliga expected to resume on May 15

Sources have told Reuters that the German state ministers will agree to ease coronavirus restrictions on Wednesday, paving the way forward for the Bundesliga to finish the season.

The ball will roll once again in Germany in the near future! News agency Reuters reports that the minister-presidents of the German states and Chancellor Angela Merkel will agree to ease coronavirus restrictions nationally and allow the Bundesliga season to resume as early as May 15. The source of the information is “two people familiar with preparations” for the meeting.
Small shops and stores have already reopened in Germany. “I can finally get a haircut,” our own Davis VanOpdorp commented. Reuters believes that large stores will be permitted to reopen on May 11. The Bundesliga then may resume “probably from May 15, under strict conditions without fans in stadiums,” according to Reuters’ source.
Outdoor and amateur sports will also be permitted to resume, and schools and daycares may also reopen in step-by-step fashion.

This comes as great news for fans of the Bundesliga and soccer generally. Germany’s prompt and successful response to the spread of the coronavirus has now given the nation the opportunity to showcase the Bundesliga, while the other major European leagues remain suspended.
