Liverpool FC urged to copy Man City with Timo Werner transfer

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has urged Jurgen Klopp to copy Manchester City's squad model and sign Timo Werner in the upcoming transfer window.
Werner is expected to leave RB Leipzig on the back of an exceptional Bundesliga campaign where he has netted 21 goals in 25 league appearances.
The German has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield after publicly admitting he would love to work with Jurgen Klopp.
City may have missed out on the Premier League title this season but the Blues are expected to strengthen their squad again in order to bring the trophy back to the Etihad Stadium next season.
Thompson believes Liverpool need Werner in order to match City's depth up front.
Pep Guardiola has Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus pushing each other for a starting berth and Thompson feels the Germany international can have the same impact on the Liverpool forward trio.
"I would like to think [Werner signing] would challenge [the front three]," Thompson told Sky Sports News.
"Yes it might sort of make them think 'oh, what's coming in here?' but being a manager you have to think ahead. You have to plan ahead for whatever might unfold.
"I don't think it would upset the players, I would like to think it would give them a challenge, maybe it would pick them up. I think we do need a few more goals.
"We do get a lot of goals from our front three but is there a realistic centre-forward in there? I think Werner would bring that to our team.
"You look at Manchester City, they make sure they've got two top-class players for each position.
"That is what Liverpool need and I think Werner would give us that. I think with the lure of Jurgen Klopp, I think that would tick the box for him.
"I really, at this moment in time, I think he would be a fantastic signing, something that we do actually need."
