The SFA are set to lobby UEFA to fast-track Rangers into the Europa League group stages should the footballing season fail to restart until September.
According to the Daily Record, the national footballing association will contact UEFA directly to make the plea that would also see Celtic entered into the Champions League.
Motherwell and Aberdeen would also be offered the chance to play in the Europa League group stages under the proposals given there would be no time to play qualifiers.
The news comes after the SPFL are reportedly set to controversially abandon the season [Wallace], awarding the title to Celtic and relegating Hearts.
The Record reports that there are also many considerations from UEFA regarding the restructuring of European competition.
This could include an increased number of groups with only winners progressing and clubs not playing home and away.
Should the SPFL award Celtic the title – despite an outside chance of them being caught by Rangers – this would then offer them a supreme financial advantage.
Entrance into the Champions League will earn clubs upwards of €15m and further stretches the financial gap between Celtic and the rest of the league despite our rivals not earning it.
In the interests of sporting integrity, it is difficult to see how anyone can justify handing Celtic awards and such riches without a monumental backlash from Ibrox.
Even if Rangers are offered a route into the Europa League, the financial benefits of it pale in comparison to the financial benefits of the Champions League.
There also remain question marks over Rangers’ current involvement in the Europa League, with the Ibrox side still to play their second leg against Bayer Leverkusen and tournament currently postponed.
