German club’s offer for Chelsea flop too good to be true

Bakayoko Dortmund

Would Chelsea sell Tiemoue Bakayoko to Dortmund?
They’d certainly have to consider it. After the dreadful debut season the Frenchman had in England, they might well be looking to get him off their hands as soon as possible

Their only hesitation would be that selling him after such an overtly dreadful term at the club will mean a guaranteed loss on the significant outlay they made on him last summer.
That is of course a sunk-cost fallacy, but as we’ve come to see, the Chelsea board aren’t afraid to indulge in a few of those.
Yesterday’s copy of the Sun had the midfielder linked with the German club for £53 MILLION… quite how we could manage to get more than we paid for him isn’t clear, and in fact the paper itself admits the Bundesliga club would baulk at that asking price.
So do we sell him at a loss, or hold on to him in the hope that he turns the corner?
