Manchester City are monitoring the talented Portuguese winger Gelson Martins. The Citizens have already invested huge sums in the last few transfer markets and they could look to bolster their squad further to mount a better challenge in all competitions.
The Manchester outfit are having a brilliant season as they have secured a double and have sealed the Premier League title with a record number of points. However, their season has slightly been dampened this month as they failed to progress through to the semi-finals of the Champions League. They were favourites to go through against their English opponents Liverpool but they were humbled by them as they went on to lose the tie 5-1 on aggregate.
Nevertheless, one should not forget how they lit up the Premier League as they have been head and shoulders above every team in the English top flight. But they cannot sit on their laurels as their rivals will come at them hard in the next season and therefore they should look to reinforce their squad.
The Portuguese winger is known for his bursting pace and is adept at playing on both the flanks. He has represented Portugal at various age levels and at just 22 he has already been capped 17 times for his country. He likes to take on defenders and can beat them easily with his tricks. However, he is slightly on the lighter side and sometimes is easily shrugged off.
Manchester City have a plethora of talents at their disposal and Guardiola has utilised it perfectly this season as the likes of Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling have become dangerous players under him. However, they don’t have much of a backup in the out-and-out winger department as Bernardo Silva is traditionally a no.10.
The signing of Martins to the Etihad could be a big move for his career as he hasn’t played football outside his home country. He will surely take time to get used to the Premier League and will not be starting every game for Pep Guardiola but he can be a good young option to have on the bench. We have seen how Guardiola has been able to bring the best out of some of his young players and same could be the case with Martins if he decides to switch to the current Premier League Champions.
