Al Ahly’s footballing director Sayed Abdelhafiz talked about their summer transfer targets and discussed the possibility of signing Brazilian winger Keno and West Brom’s Ahmed Hegazi.
Keno is currently plying his trade for Emirati side Al Jazira, on loan from Egyptian Premier League club Pyramids FC.
However, the winger is expected to leave his parent club at the end of the season with some reports suggesting that Atletico Mineiro have shown interest in signing him. The 30-year-old also revealed that he would like to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Talking to Alhadath Alyoum TV channel, Abdelhafiz talked about the possibility of signing the former Palmeiras man, while also revealing plans to keep Ramadann Sobhi at the club.
“Keno is a great player and performed well with Pyramids last season, but the final decision is the manager’s, Rene Weiler,” said Adbelhafiz.
“We’re negotiating with Ramadan Sobhi and his parent club, Hudderfield Town, to keep the player at the club and we’ll announce all the details when the time is right.
“Hegazi is very experienced and is the national team’s main center-back. We’re now just trying to organize ourselves before the summer transfer window opens,” he added.
Abdelhafiz then explained how they’re planning on filling the right back position, left empty by one of their modern day icons, Ahmed Fathi, who joined league rivals Pyramids.
“Al Ahly won’t sign a foreign player after Ahmed Fathi’s departure. We have a lot of other options such as Bassem Ali who’s currently on loan at El Gouna and also some academy players such as Ahmed Sayed Abdelnaby, Mahmoud Saber, Fares Tarek and Karim Yehia.”
“Mohamed Abdelmoneim [on loan at Smouha] is a promising defender and he’ll become a good player if he keeps this level.
“We had a meeting with Weiler three days ago to discuss the situation of our loaned players. And we decided on two or three players namely Mohamed Sherif and Akram Tawfik but the season isn’t over yet and a lot can change,” he concluded.
The Red Devils were on the verge of lifting their 42nd league title as they sat 16 points clear on top of the league table before the competition’s suspension
