Bayern Munich and Alphonso Davies set to finalize details on a new contract

The teenager is one of Europe’s finest talents at the moment, and he’s set to stay in Munich for a long time.

Good news! According to Manuel Bonke of TZBayern Munich are set to sign Alphonso Davies to a brand new contract. The 19-year-old Canadian has impressed everyone with his displays this season, especially his blistering performance against Chelsea in the Champions League. Davies, or Phonzie as he’s known, is one of the lowest earners on the Bayern first team — the extension should bring him up to parity with his colleagues, and reflect the growth he’s shown in 18 months at Munich.
Here’s the tweet in question by Bonke:
FC Bayern is currently in promising talks with Alphonso Davies regarding an early contract extension. There are some contractual details left to clear up, but no one in Munich doubts that an agreement with Phonzy will be reached in the near future.
These reports come as no real surprise, as we already knew Bayern were going to offer the youngster a bumper deal in the wake of the carnage at Stamford Bridge. The same article also mentions that clubs around Europe were beginning to monitor Davies’ progress. Too bad they have no chance of getting him — the Bayern bosses know what they have, and Davies will be tied down to a new contract for as long as possible.
This is one of the joys of being a Bayern fan. If Davies were at Borussia Dortmund, we’d have to constantly worry about a big club like Real Madrid or Barcelona swooping in and snatching him away. But as fans of a destination club, we can expect to enjoy someone of Davies’ talents for the foreseeable future. He’s already a top-3 left back in the world at the moment, and if David Alaba continues to be a baller at center back, Bayern will need Davies’ skills to go far and eventually win Europe’s top prize.

Hopefully, the contract extension is made official soon, so he can join Thomas Muller in the “I’m not leaving” gang. They can have a party where they all stand six feet apart from each other, and get Berni to bring the drinks. Won’t that be fun?
