Il Grifone changed their manager yet again as Thiago Motta got the sack following a 0-4 defeat to Inter prior to break. Former Nerazzurri and PSG midfielder kicked off his managerial career with an emphatic 3-1 win over Brescia but picked up just three points from next eight league matches (0-3-5). Davide Nicola, former Crotone and Udinese boss, took over.

The Rossoblu’s are sitting at the bottom of the Serie A table, four points behind currently safe Sampdoria.

The hosts have logged two wins, one draw and five losses at Luigi Ferrais, netting a goal per bout and conceding 1.38 per match. Genoa have lost three home games on the trot – to Sampdoria (0-1), Torino (0-1) and Udinese (1-3).

Lerager and Kouame are on the sidelines.

Sassuolo’s unbeaten run came to an end as they fell to a last-minute defeat to Napoli at MAPEI stadium. Before that, Neroverdi shared the spoils with Juventus (2-2), Cagliari (2-2) and AC Milan (0-0), and defeated struggling Brescia 2-0 in a rescheduled game.

With the win-draw-loss record of 5-4-8, Roberto De Zerbi’s side are 12th on the ladder, tied with Hellas Verona.

The Neroverdi have recorded two wins, three draws and three defeats on their travels, averaging 1.25 goals scored per match, whilst conceding 1.38 in return. They’re riding a five-game unbeaten streak away from home.

Chiriches and Defrel will be evaluated before the game; Domenico Berardi is expected to start.

Genoa players reacted well on Motta’s debut and their fans will be hoping to see more of the same on Sunday, but I don’t trust them to deliver. I’d rather back dangerous Sassuolo team in Double Chance market with decent odds.

The visitors will have to stay focused and not get complacent after a few solid results. After all, Genoa narrowly escaped the drop last season after having exactly the same W-D-L record as them after 17 rounds.

With a 1-1 hunch, I’ll take Both Teams to Score – Yes as my second bet.
