Everything that came together for FC Dallas in their 1-0 win over the New England Revolution

FC Dallas’ defense gets the job done.

On the road, FC Dallas managed to outplay the New England Revolution to secure a 1-0 win. While FC Dallas’ finishing was still an issue, the chance creation and energy of the team was good to see away from home. While Jacori Hayes put in another stellar performance and stole the show with his goal, Roland LamahCristian Colman, and FC Dallas’ defense all looked lively and helped Dallas get an important result.

Colmán’s Confidence

Seeing the start for FC Dallas and playing the full 90 minutes, Cristian Colmán created an impressive amount of chances for himself, but missed all of them. He was playing with both confidence from scoring last week, and frustration from the opportunities that he missed throughout the game against the Revolution. The number of high-quality chances that Colmán had during an away game is impressive, especially without Mauro Diaz to playmake behind him.
Going forward, Colmán needs to forget that he missed those chances, and focus on creating more of the same opportunities. As a forward, it is better to have a game with many missed opportunities the way Colmán did, then to not even create those opportunities to miss, the way Urruti was in this particular game before being subbed off.

FCD’s defense gets the job done

Although it was not a perfect defensive game, FC Dallas’ defense stifled New England’s attack and in the end got the shutout. Jimmy Maurer had his best game to date for FC Dallas. All of the defenders in FCD’s back four had at least a decent performance. Anton Nedyalkovspecifically had a solid outing. His determination will be able to help the team on the road this year.

Lamah stands out again

Roland Lamah got on the scoresheet again, this time with an assist to Jacori Hayes. Lamah showed patience and awareness on the play that led to the goal. He now has 2 assists on the year, which is close to his 3 assist total in 2017. Lamah also almost got an assist on his cross to Colmán, whose point-blank header forced a diving save by NE goalkeeper Matt Turner. Lamah also got in behind NE’s defense and nearly scored in the 40th minute, but Turner again came up big with a save. It was good to see Lamah creating chances, and not just for himself, but for his teammates. The biggest criticisms of Lamah last year were that he disappears in games and does not create enough scoring chances for his teammates.
FC Dallas played with an energy that they lacked on the road last year, and it was definitely a breath of fresh air for fans watching. If FC Dallas can not consistently get wins at home this year, it is going to be important for the the team to get some results away from home this year, like they did in New England.
