The 3-2 win at Athletic Bilbao had given Deportivo a lifeline in the relegation battle. Having defeated the rock bottom Malaga in the previous week, the 18th ranked team has now cut short their distance to safety to 5 points. Still, this is a herculean task for Clarence Seedorf and his mean as they have to meet Barcelona, Celta Vigo, Valencia and Villarreal in the remaining 5 weeks after this. At least 12 points is needed from here to avoid the drop.
Sevilla were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Villarreal on Saturday which stretched their winless run in all competitions to 6 games. The intensity of Champions League games could have taken a toll on Vincenzo Montella’s men as they were chasing shadows for most the game at the Pizjuan on the weekend. However, the result of such a streak is disastrous as they are about to miss out on European football next season. A five match win-less streak with 2 draws and 3 losses keep them a point outside top six in La Liga and results must improve from here.
There are other worries for Vincenzo Montella as he takes his team to Riazor on Tuesday. His defense is leaking goals in plenty and let in 12 goals from their last 5 league games. This could be a problem against a Deportivo side looking to go on the offense from kick off.
Deportivo La Coruna vs Sevilla: Head-to-head
Sevilla haven’t lost a competitive game to Deportivo La Coruna since 2010, a streak of 12 games with 7 wins and 5 draws.
Seven of their last 8 h2h meetings saw both teams scoring.
At the Riazor, Sevilla won 3 of their last 4 La Liga fixtures along with a draw.
Deportivo La Coruna vs Sevilla: Predictions
Deportivo are on a decent run of form and they will be on looking to carry on the momentum while welcoming Sevilla on Tuesday. Other than coming on back-to-back wins, the team is unbeaten in their last four home games.
Fatigue will be an issue for the visitors as they are about to play their fourth game in 10 days on Tuesday. The same was clear on the weekend against Villarreal and this will only get worse this midweek with few options on the bench.
This is why I back Deportivo to not lose this match. But they will concede goals as neither side seem to have the stability in defense. La Coruna let in 2 each in their last two games despite winning. While Sevilla conceded a minimum of 2 in their last six La Liga games. Therefore, both teams to score has to be a banker.
