ormer Real Salt Lake academy standout Sebastian Soto is on the move.
The 20-year-old US youth national team forward has signed a three-year deal with Norwich City, the club announced Monday. Soto will be part of a squad looking to gain immediate promotion back to the Premier League following Norwich's relegation to the Championship this season.
He arrives in England after his contract with 2.Bundesliga side Hannover expired.
“It’s a proud feeling. It’s super exciting to join Norwich City,” Soto told the club’s website. “The facilities here are really impressive. From the minute I arrived here, it’s given me a lot of excitement. Being a young player, it’s nice to hear that the head coach gives us a chance. It was a big factor in me moving here. I’m striker that loves scoring goals. I love being part of a good team that plays good football.”
Soto opened eyes last summer when he scored four goals to help lead the US to the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Soto joined the RSL academy in 2016 after starring for his hometown San Diego Surf, where he scored 42 goals in 27 appearances. He then signed with Hannover in 2018 and made his professional debut in 2019. Soto had 17 goals in 24 appearances for the club’s U-19 side, but he only appeared in five matches for the first team.
