On this day, Real Madrid lifted club's second Latin Cup

Sixty-three years have passed since Real Madrid claimed the club's second Latin Cup. On 23 June 1957, José Villalonga's men lifted the trophy after seeing off Benfica in the final courtesy of Alfredo Di Stéfano's solitary strike. En route to the showpiece, the madridistas prevailed over AC Milan in the semi-final, which was played at the Santiago Bernabéu.

This trophy triumph saw Real Madrid round off an excellent 1956/57 season, in which the side also secured the LaLiga title and a second European Cup crown. This victory meant that Madrid were crowned champions of the last-ever edition of the Latin Cup. The team had earlier won this international tournament, which pitted the leading teams from France, Spain, Portugal and Italy against each other, in 1955.
