The Bundesliga season could be set to resume later this month as Germany prepares to ease coronavirus restrictions.
A teleconference involving Chancellor Angela Merkel and Germany's state premiers on Wednesday is expected to produce an agreement over measures that could pave the way for the Bundesliga campaign to resume on May 15, Sabine Siebold and Andreas Rinke of Reuters report.
While German society will begin to ease its way back to normalcy by reportedly reopening large shops and allowing children to return to school on a limited basis, it's understood the 2019-20 season will likely be completed behind closed doors.
German clubs returned to training in early April, but a series of incidents have cast doubt over a return date for the season, which was suspended on March 13.
The league had initially hoped to restart on May 9 before the German government delayed its decision whether to ease restrictions related to the pandemic last week.
FC Koln announced last week that "three people" tested positive for COVID-19, and it was revealed Monday that 10 of 1,724 samples taken from 36 clubs in Germany's top two divisions were also positive.
