EFL Championship to discuss possibility of transfer bans for clubs agreed wage deferrals

Championship clubs are gearing up for a new "civil war" in a fresh row over transfers, with further talks expected this week.
A number of second-tier sides, including Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion, are arguing that rival clubs who have agreed wage deferrals with their players should be prevented from making signings when the transfer window reopens.
Preston and West Brom have not entered talks with their players over wage reductions and believe other clubs who have struck agreements must have restrictions placed on them over future transfer business.

Many Championship clubs are deferring player wages for up to three months to assist finances during the coronavirus crisis, with most agreeing temporary reductions of around 25 per cent.
Leeds, Brentford, Nottingham Forest, Bristol City, Millwall, Cardiff and Blackburn are clubs in the Championship's top 10 understood to have struck deferral agreements.

But rivals are pressing for action to be taken and the stance was discussed in last Friday's conference call with officials from clubs. There will be the English Football League's weekly board meeting later this week and sources have claimed that it is now a "live issue".
It is thought that the situation could become more serious when the Championship season returns.

Meanwhile, EFL chairman Rick Parry will attend a select committee meeting on Tuesday, with the Rugby Football Union and English Cricket Board also expected to be present,
Parry will be questioned by government ministers on the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the EFL and its clubs, while cricket and rugby will also be represented.
