KIT LEAK: Color scheme for Bayern Munich’s third kit for 2020/2021 season

These look to have been inspired by a digital kit from FIFA 18

There’s not much football to write about right now amidst the COVID 19 pandemic, but fortunately we now have a glimpse of what Bayern Munich’s third kits will look like for the 2020/2021 season (Footy Headlines). As has often been the case, the third kits are often referred to as “European” kits that are worn in UEFA competition, but scenarios do arise where they need to be sported in domestic competition.

Uniquely, it’s understood that the design concept for the kit was inspired by the fans’ favorite digital fourth kit from FIFA 18. The kit featured a solid black base with red diagonal stripes that contained the shell-like designs that are on this season’s home kit to pay homage to the iconic Allianz Arena. It also features three white hoop stripes on each sleeve as well as a white, monochromatic team badge, Adidas logo, and T-Mobile logo. In the kit, the shorts and socks are also black with white numbers and lettering, which is likely going to be the case with the actual kits that are released. Most of Bayern’s black third jerseys in the past have been all black.

While Adidas has not yet officially confirmed that the kits will look exactly like the FIFA 18 version, the color scheme concept is consistent with them. The only real question will be whether or not the actual jersey will feature the unique, diagonal red stripe across the front shoulder and torso.

Here is the official color scheme concept that’s been leaked:

Even with only having the color scheme concept at this point, it provokes memories from European nights from the 2011-2012 season. Topping Group A over SSC Napoli, Manchester City, and Villareal to devouring FC Basel 7-1 on aggregate, defeating Real Madrid on penalties, it was a hell of a ride. Of course, we don’t recall the final ever happening that year, because it TOTALLY NEVER HAPPENED and we completed the historic treble a year later under Jupp Heynckes.
